UPDATE: Person of Interest in Rio Hill Homicide is Found and Taken Into Custody

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA – UPDATE 6/23/23 - Jemarcus Devonte Butler has been found and taken into custody.


On June 23, 2023, at approximately 9:45 am, the U.S. Marshals arrested 33-year-old Jemarcus Devonte Butler in the area of Union Station (50 Massachusetts Avenue NE, Washington DC). Butler was taken into custody without incident.

 

In addition to the outstanding felony capias for malicious wounding out of Lynchburg, Virginia, and robbery charges out of New York, Butler has been charged by Albemarle County Police with the following:

 

  • 2nd Degree Murder (Virginia Code §18.2-32)
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (Virginia Code §18.2-53.1)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Virginia Code §18.2-308.2)

 

Butler is currently being held at the D.C. Central Cellblock. 

 

The Albemarle County Police Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, and Amtrak Police at Union Station for their assistance with this investigation.
