Thank you to all the programs out there who have stepped in to help fill the gap in child care for Denver families affected by the Denver teachers strike. Again, we wish to emphasize that participating by sharing your capacity with us via our survey or applying for an emergency waiver through the Colorado Department of Human Services Division of Early Care and Learning is 100% optional and at your discretion. It is not a requirement, and children's health and safety should always be prioritized in the consideration of a waiver.

Here is the latest information:
  • Denver Public Schools (DPS) is committed to reimbursing licensed community centers and licensed family child care homes $45 per day, per each DPS Head Start child they have taken into their program during each day of the strike.
  • Licensed community centers and licensed family child care homes will be reimbursed $35 per day, per each DPS early education child whose family does not pay tuition to DPS (free and reduced-lunch qualifying families who are not participating in DPS Head Start) that they have taken into their program during each day of the strike.
  • Denver Preschool Program (DPP) tuition credits will follow children to other DPP-approved sites. To see a list of DPP-approved sites, go to dpp.org/find-a-preschool. If parents have questions related to DPP tuition credits, they should call the DPP parent hotline at 303-595-4377.
  • The Denver Preschool Program has funds available to help cover additional staffing or operational expenses that DPP sites may incur. Since this entire process is fluid, DPP is working on supporting families and providers in every way they can. If you have specific questions about DPP reimbursement, please contact Chris Miller directly at 720-287-5055 x140, or chris@dpp.org
