Dear Mountains & Music Musicians,
Like you, we miss making music with others so much that it hurts. We really wish we could be sending out a Save-the-Date for the Fall Mountains & Music weekend. But, unfortunately, our weekends put us in close proximity to each other in bunks, rehearsals and socializing. There is no way to ensure protection from Covid-19 at such an event at this time. It is our fervent hope that it will be possible to conduct our winter weekend at Pinkham Notch, February 12-14, 2021. We have secured conductors – Marshunda Smith for the orchestra and Cathy Meyer for the chorus. Please mark your calendars, and keep fingers and toes crossed that it will be safe to make music together again.
Thanks to two thirds of the winter participants who filled out our on-line survey. We learned that we satisfy the most people by alternating the winter weekends between Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch, and Nature’s Classroom in Peterborough. Folks were overall extremely happy with the February 2020 event, with many kudos to the conductors. There were a lot of positive comments about the new “doubling up” for chamber music where less confident players could double with someone more skilled and/or confident. As always, we take your comments to heart and look for ways to refine and improve our weekends.
We hope you are finding ways to express yourselves musically. Many of us have been experimenting with programs such as Acapella, GarageBand and Audacity in an attempt to find creative ways for singers and instrumentalists to play virtual ensembles together, both with others and ourselves. Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to play simultaneously with others over the internet via Zoom, FaceTime or any other video chat program.
Please stay safe and well, wear a mask and wash your hands. Mark your calendars for the next (hopefully) Mountains & Music Winter Weekend, February 12-14, 2021. We would LOVE to spend next Valentine’s Day with you!
