A NOTE FROM JOSH
This Sunday is a special day in the life of the global Church: All Saints Sunday. You probably know that this is the day we at Sandy Springs Christian Church remember those in our community who have passed over the last year. While we remember those close to us, we also join Christians all around the world in remembering the saints who have left this earthly world to go on into the spiritual world.
One of the many elements of All Saints Sunday that is powerful for me personally is that we are not only joined by those currently living in this world, but also by those who have come before us. This day every year, for generations, has been set aside as a day of remembrance. We are invited to partake in a tradition that has happened for many, many years before us and will continue long after us. In essence, we are remembering all those who have come before us and have had an impact on our own life and faith journey, directly or indirectly, just as our ancestors in the faith have done before. We are continuing what was started many centuries ago.
I consider the words of Hebrews 12 when I think about this awesome connection: “So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us.” Friends, we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses; some clothed in flesh and some shrouded in spirit, but all supporting us, encouraging us, and running with us.
Let us take this day of remembrance to honor all that has been done and to dream of continuing the witness of the saints in our world. For we are part of the great cloud of witnesses; let us carry on the lineage of loving, caring, and serving the community that all those before us began! For the legacy is established; all we must do is continue to act to uphold it with our words, actions, and care for others who share this planet with us. As we remember, may we move to share the faithful compassion we have already experienced.

Nov.1st: ALL SAINTS SUNDAY
Joshua 3:7-17
"Because They Walked"
After forty years of wandering in the wilderness, the Israelites finally arrive at the Jordan River, ready to enter the Promised Land. But they don't arrive there on their own. Generations of people have walked before them, endured hardships, made sacrifices, made mistakes, and trusted in God's promises, even when they would not live to see the final fruits of their labor. On All Saints Sunday, we remember those who have gone before us, recognizing that our own journeys of faith are possible because of the lives and love of others.
Now, just as God continued to lead Israel into a new chapter, we are reminded that God's work does not end with any one generation. We inherit the faith of those who came before us, and we are called to carry it forward for those who will come after.
_______________________________________________
This Sunday, November 1st, we will observe All Saints Sunday. This is our annual recognition of those members of our congregation who have died in the past year. We want to remember the deceased and the many ways in which they touched our lives. We will recognize and remember the following members/Saints during the service this year: Tom Money, Philip Rowell, Elinor Tollman, and Angela Sparks.

SERVICES FOR PHILIP ROWELL - THIS SUNDAY
Dear SSCC,
Final arrangements for Visitation and a Service of Remembrance have been made. UPDATE: Visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, on Saturday, October 31, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Philip's service will take place at Sandy Springs Christian Church at 2:00 pm on Sunday, Nov. 1st. There will be a reception in the centrum following the service.
Please keep Philip's family in your prayers, especially his loving wife of 40 years, Cordelia.
Philip joined SSCC in membership almost 40 years ago. Philip served in a variety of roles at SSCC throughout his ministry, including even taking care of the church grounds for many years on Saturday mornings with other members. He was an Elder, Deacon, Trustee, and regularly attended the Thursday breakfast group. He truly loved God and his neighbor. He will be missed by many.
Peace, Teddy

The safety and security of all attendees remains our top priority, and we have once again contracted with the Cobb County Police Department to provide professional security. To ensure our security plan is fully effective, we need volunteers from our participating faith communities to serve as the eyes and ears for our security team and to offer a warm welcome to our guests.
Volunteer details: Positions are available inside the building, in the front courtyard, and in the parking areas. Fluorescent vests and walkie-talkies will be provided as needed. Please arrive at 5:15 PM and report to the main entrance for a brief orientation and assignment overview led by Henry Hene and Rachel Barich. Most volunteers will be relieved 15 minutes after the service begins so they can join the celebration. A small group will remain on duty at the building perimeter for the duration of the event.
Please sign up as soon as possible to help us ensure adequate coverage for a safe and welcoming event. You can register using the following link:

FALL WORK DAY
Thank you everyone for coming out and collectively helping to spruce up our church landscape. The hard-wood mulch that was placed along Abernathy will help prevent those crummy weeds from taking over next summer, the many perennials planted will make the Abernathy entrance next summer look fabulous and the pine straw placed around the circle drive and front entrance looks great and should last till next fall. Great job everyone!!!

ADULT SUNDAY EDUCATION OPTIONS AT 9:00 AM
*THE COMMON GROUND - This week join John Mills and the group in the Common Ground room where they will be discussing, "Cain, Abel, and Sacrifice: The identity of sacrifice and work; the hostile brothers of good and evil; the sacred patterning of the political; the good shepherd as archetypal leader; the sacrifice pleasing to God; creatively possessed by the spirit, or power, of resentment; humility and faith versus pride, despair, and vengeful anger; fratricide, then worse."
*THE COMMON THREAD - This group meets in the Leslie Classroom to talk about the other texts the Revised Common Lectionary offers for the day that do not serve as our guide in Sunday worship. Grab some coffee and a friend and join us.
