UPDATE ON TODAY'S Cal/OSHA STANDARDS BOARD MEETING

Members --

We wanted to provide an update on today's Cal/OSHA Standards Board meeting. There was no discussion of the COVID regulation, but a few other regulations were discussed that we want to flag for members.

  • Lead Regulation – Board staff noted that they expected to provide a 45-day comment notice for the lead regulation update in April of this year, with potential passage likely 12 months or so from there. CRA will provide a comment letter, and welcomes input from those who will be effected by the update. The proposed update text is available HERE (note that the draft is textually the same as the 2016 version).

  • Indoor Heat Regulation - Labor pushed the Board to adopt this regulation asap, and staff responded this would likely be put out on a 45-day comment period in May of 2023, with likely passage in 2024. Draft text available HERE and more information available HERE.

  • Workplace Violence – Staff reported an advisory committee is likely to be convened on this draft regulation to consider adjustments mid-year (summer 2023). Draft available HERE.

  • First Aid Regulation Update – The Board was not able to pass this regulation today, as it appears staff could not complete the necessary regulatory package to bring it to a vote. As a result, it will be delayed, likely for months-to-years, as it will need to recommence the regulatory process (having just missed its deadline to be brought for a vote).

The CRA team is combing through new legislative proposals that are being introduced. As a reminder, the deadline to introduce legislative bills is Friday, February 17th. We will flag bills of relevance to our members and send a comprehensive list next week.

As always, if you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to the CRA team.
