 |  | The Broward MPO plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation in our region. Part of our outreach efforts include collaborating with community organizations to educate stakeholders about what they can do to help us advance infrastructure projects that will improve the quality of life in Broward County. We have partnered with the Leadership Broward Foundation to host Leadership Broward Transportation Day on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Broward MPO offices. This event will bring together dynamic leaders under one banner with a single objective – to positively reshape the region's transportation infrastructure. Leadership Broward Transportation Day attendees include members of the current Leadership Broward Foundation cohort, a passionate group of community leaders who have excelled in their respective fields. Leadership Broward Transportation Day presents a unique opportunity for these individuals to collaborate, share knowledge, brainstorm ideas, and strategize ways to revolutionize the transportation system in South Florida. Participants will be educated on the region's infrastructure, current challenges, future potential, policy aspects, and funding opportunities related to transportation. Leadership Broward Transportation Day also promotes collaboration and partnership among participants from diverse backgrounds, creating a holistic and profound understanding of transportation concerns. With a focus on viable and impactful solutions, Leadership Broward Transportation Day taps into the unique talents, experiences, and perspectives of the cohort to foster forward-thinking strategies and solutions that boost the region's transportation infrastructure. I believe that collaborative initiatives like Leadership Broward Transportation Day can steer change in the right direction by uniting thought leaders who are genuinely dedicated to societal progress. As we embark on a new year, this initiative is a call to action to work together to create a future where the transportation landscape is enhanced, improved, and sustainable, fostering a community that benefits everyone.

The Broward MPO is proud to honor Lori Baer, Executive Director of the Port Everglades Association (PEA), with the prestigious State of the Region Community Impact Award. This award pays tribute to individuals who have made significant contributions towards community growth and development, leaving a significant and lasting impact on the community they serve. The Community Impact Award further highlights the pivotal role that exceptional individuals play in facilitating positive change in our communities. Ms. Baer’s commendable efforts have revolutionized the operational effectiveness of Port Everglades, contributing to the growth and prosperity of Broward County. Since her appointment as the Executive Director of the PEA, she has exemplified extraordinary dedication, competence, and vision in her role. Her notable accomplishments in strengthening the Port's financial position and encouraging sustainable growth have received recognition on local, regional, and national levels. Through her work expanding infrastructure, lobbying for crucial funding, and collaborating with different organizations to grow Port Everglades, she has transformed it. Her consistent focus on community involvement, education, and promotion of maritime interests reflects the characteristics of an exceptional community leader. As an advocate for community engagement, Ms. Baer believes that all residents and businesses should be part of the conversation when discussing the development and impact of Port Everglades. Florida Department of Transportation Hosts Training Sessions for Title VI and ADA Compliance | |
 | | The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting a training on Title VI and ADA compliance for local agencies. The department underscores the importance of keeping local agency coordinators updated with the current practices, guidelines, and expectations concerning Title VI and other nondiscrimination laws and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). FDOT’s Local Agency Program (LAP), which relies on federal funding, has a direct role in monitoring how the Local Agencies maintain their adherence to these necessary federal regulations. Therefore, this event aims to bring local agencies current on necessary protocols for consistency and efficiency in implementation. Set for February 15 and 16, 2024, the training is structured into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will focus on equipping coordinators with essential knowledge regarding Title VI, the landmark federal law designed to prevent discrimination based on race, color, and national origin. Alongside this, coordinators will be enlightened on the array of Nondiscrimination Acts. The afternoon session is specially designated for local agency design project managers and focuses on compliance with ADA. As this act aims to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities, this training will educate on ways local agencies can support these communities. All Local Agency Title VI and ADA Coordinators must take this training once every three years as a requisite for their LAP Certification. Click here to learn more.

Community Input Needed on SW/SE 17th Street Conceptual Design | |
The Broward MPO, in partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale, is currently working to produce a locally supported conceptual design for the segment of SW/SE 17th Street from SW 9th Avenue to US-1 that provides safe and comfortable bicycle and pedestrian facilities connecting to the proposed Broward Commuter Rail Station.
