Message from the President 


It’s coming up on six months since recreational cannabis became legal, and municipalities are still waiting for a commitment from the Province to share this tax revenue with municipalities. 


The Government of Canada announced a one-time increase in the Gas Tax Fund of $2.2 billion for 2019-2020 and AUMA is looking for information on how these funds will be allocated.


As of April 1, 2018, the Alberta Ombudsman’s jurisdiction expanded to include municipalities and have the power to act on complaints and, if warranted, initiate investigations into municipal decisions and decision-making processes.

Municipalities that share a common boundary must adopt ICF bylaws by April 1, 2020, but 45 ICFs have already been submitted to Municipal Affairs.
