The author pointed out how challenging it is for parents right now to try to teach values such as honesty, integrity, compassion, and reverence for justice and truth when children are exposed every day to leaders and others in positions of authority who represent the antithesis of those values.

Immigrant Support Fund


HARC is partnering with the Western MD Immigrant Rights Collective (IRC) to help immigrant families with children who are struggling to survive due to I.C.E. detainment. While IRC employs volunteers in on-the-ground efforts, HARC has started an Immigrant Support Fund to help with some financial needs, including legal and basic needs. If you would like to help support families in need, please make a donation through our website using the link below (use drop-down menu to designate the funds) or mail a check to HARC, P.O. Box 1158, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Feed My Starving Children MobilePack Event


Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack Event coming to Hagerstown! They are currently meeting with partner churches and businesses in the area to join them. They will be packing 100,000 Manna Packs as well as collecting non-perishables for our local food pantries. Please call for more information on how your church community can get involved. Maryland SUN Bucks helps families supplement their grocery budgets during the summer months when students may lose access to school-provided meals. They need your continued support to ensure this investment in our children and their families remains successful.

HARC Meeting: Dept. of Social Services

This month, we’ll hear from representatives of the Washington County Department of Social Services regarding foster care needs and benefits access, including implications for our community from recent legislation. Join us for lunch and fellowship along with the presentation. Thank you to Zion UCC for hosting and providing food (a free will offering basket will be out for donations toward the meal). RSVP requested by Fri., June 12 at noon so we can get a count for lunch.

3rd Annual Japanese Noodle Slide with Jazz

Venerable Temm Bikle, Buddhist Monk, is hosting the 3rd annual Japanese Noodle Slide in memory of Thích Quảng Đức. It’s a unique and fun experience where you can catch noodles with chopsticks as they slide down a chute into your broth-filled bowl for noodle soup! Noodle soup and other Japanese and Vietnamese food will be served. Vegetarian friendly and fun for all ages! New this year: enjoy live jazz music with Syd Machat and Sam Jannotta and their band, Harmonica Jazziz! Cost to register is $15; kids under 10 get in free! This is a one-time, food “drop”. Bring sturdy grocery type tote bags to carry your food/produce home.
