 Hartford Union High School District
Strategic Plan Survey

Be a part of the future! Take the survey!

Dear HUHS Stakeholder,

The District has begun a Strategic Plan process, which will produce 3 - 5 goals for the next 3 years. The process involves a Strategic Plan Team (SPTeam) of 30 stakeholder groups' representatives, who will review District data, participate in focus group listening sessions, and then develop the goals. The Board of Education has directed the process to be completed no later than December 2017, for implementation of the goals from January 2018 - December 2020.

Part of the data collection is a survey that we invite you and strongly encourage you to take. While it is a brief survey, there are opportunities for written input, as well. We need to hear from our entire school District community, so that the SPTeam can be best informed as it develops the goals.

Please be a part of the future by participating through the link on our website.  Please click here.

Thank you, and thank you for supporting the education of our community's most important and valued assets - our kids!

Sincerely,

Attila J. Weninger, Ph.D., Superintendent

Key dates for the Junior Class of 2019

Seniors - CLASS OF 2018
It's always important to ready your email, but for Seniors it critical as there are many due dates associated with Graduation and Senior Year.  Transcripts, Scholarships and Graduation details are just some of the things to watch for.  Here are some key dates for the Class of 2018!

Students Travel to France
A group of 14 students and 3 adults from HUHS went on a tour of France from June 12-25, 2017.  The trip exposed the travelers to the varied history of the country as well as the varied climates and regions.  The group landed in Switzerland and drove to Chamonix where they visited the Aiguille du Midi for a view of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe.  After that they traveled to Lyon, a city which boasts a 2000 year history and then on to the south.  There the group was able to see some of the Roman ruins such as the Pont du Gard-a former Roman -aquaduct an old Roman temple, an amphitheater, and La Tour Magne-a tower that overlooks the old Roman city of Nimes.  There was a visit to the coastal town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer for some time at the Mediterranean, and then the group moved on towards the west where they visited the "pink city" of Toulouse, center of the aerospace industry and the medieval walled city of Carcassonne.  From there, the group moved on to Oradour sur Glane, a small village in which the inhabitants were rounded up by the Nazis and exterminated and the village burned to the ground.  After that, the group went on to the city of Tours, a former Gallic-Roman settlement with side tours to two of the kings' summer residences in the Loire Valley, Chambord and Chenonceau.  Following this example of luxury, the group continued to the north to the village of Bayeux, took a side trip to Mont Saint Michel-a monastery at the top of an island-and then continued on to experience several D-day sites in Normandy and the Peace Museum in Caen.  After this sobering day, the group moved on to the city of Versailles and visited the palace where there were many peace treaties signed over the years.  Paris was the final destination.  The group saw many of the major tourist sites including the Eiffel Tower, the Opera, the Sacred Heart Basilica, the Louvre and the Orsay Museums, the Arch of Triumph, and the Catacombs.  After two scorching hot weeks, the group returned to Hartford very tired, but very happy!

Students Travel to Peru
This summer 21 students traveled to many majestic Inca sites in Peru; the highlight being Machu Picchu.  The students spent seven days in Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu, in homestays.  Students became a part of a Peruvian family, meaning the students practiced their Spanish speaking skills, learned about the customs and culture of the city, and ate typical Peruvian food.

In addition the days in Cusco, students spent two days in Puno, allowing them to visit the beautiful Lake Titicaca and one day in the capital city of Lima.

One of the days, students visited a school on the outskirts of Cusco.  Although school wasn't in session due to a teacher's strike, the Principal gathered students to play games, sing songs, and speak Spanish with our students.

Sophomore Erin Popies Travels to Europe to Play the French Horn
Erin Popies, who will be a Sophomore at HUHS in the Fall, spent three weeks this summer playing across Europe. Erin is 2nd chair horn (there are 3 total). The picture below is from her last stop in the Netherlands.

Student Logo Designs
Students in Ms. Danay's Introduction to Digital Communications were challenged to design a number of logos throughout the spring semester for different community organizations.

Hartford Downtown Lights Committee Logo
Hannah Kaphingst
Abigail Denhartigh
The students were challenged with a broad topic from the Downtown  Lights Committee to create a logo with bright lights that represented downtown Hartford and then had to work through the tweaks all via online communications. Hannah Kaphingst and Abigail Denhartigh created two different logos in Adobe Illustrator for the Downtown Lights Committee and the committee requested that the girls work together to combine their logo into one design, with a few tweaks.  Overall, it was a great learning experience to work with the committee, our "customers", and to give students an experience to come together on a project when they were not expecting to. Both girls did a great job in working together and meeting the needs of the committee.

Logo Design Contest Option for the West Bend Barton Gun Club

In another class assignment option, students had the opportunity to design a logo for a contest that the West Bend Barton Gun Club put out for a new logo. Marissa Telderer submitted a logo that she designed in Adobe Illustrator for the contest. Her logo below was selected, but will need a few tweaks. She has won a cash price as well as clays. She will be presenting her logo to the board at an upcoming meeting. Congratulations Marissa!!

Click here to see the senior photos that have been submitted.

Senior Photo Requirements
  • Senior pictures are due November 1, 2017. Photos not turned in by this deadline will result in a $25.00 fine. Photos received after November 15, WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED in the 2017-18 yearbook
  • Please email one digital file of your photograph to [email protected]. It must be at least 2x3 inches at 300dpi. If you cannot send a digital file, we can digitize it, but this will reduce the quality from the original. Please name your file with your last name, _ , then your first name (example: doe_john.jpg). File types can be .jpg or .tiff
  • DO NOT SEND IN a screenshot of your senior picture from your photographer, if at all possible, have your photographer send the photo to prevent losing any quality!
  • Photos must be vertical color prints, with  no pets, no hats, and have a simple background. Dress needs to be school appropriate. Remember, the pictures in our yearbook are small, so ideally the photo should show just the head and shoulders. We want to maximize your face size.
  • Many local photographers have these deadlines and may the send the photo for you if you ask. Please understand that your photographer will need probably 6 weeks or more to get photos done. This means you should have your pictures taken by the middle of September to get them done with enough time to spare.
  • We cannot accept prints from a Laser or inkjet home computer printer.
Any students who do not turn in senior pictures will have their HUHS school picture published in the yearbook.

ATTENTION SENIORS - FINAL TRANSCRIPTS

Seniors will need to request a final transcript from Parchment if they are college-bound.  Most colleges and universities require a final transcript to complete the admission process.
Seniors need to log into their Parchment account to make that request.  Be certain to supply a personal email address (not the HUHS student email).   Request a "final transcript" when submitting the order; transcripts will be available the end of June.

If a Parchment account has not been set up yet, please go to   www.huhs.org, where the link to Parchment is available by clicking on Transcripts.

Any transcript questions can be directed to the Student Services Office.
