Richmond Town Hall: Upzoning, March 6th

Senator Wiener's SB 951: Opens SF Coastline for Development

Thank You!

Your emails to the Board of Supervisors were instrumental in their 8-3 vote supporting President Peskin's amendment to the planning code, countering the real estate lobby's efforts to transform the NE Waterfront into a Miami or Dubai-like landscape.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Currently, the Mayor is proposing the same elimination of density control in our commercial business districts. It's referred to as Form Based Density or Density Decontrol. Once an area is density decontrolled and the State Density Bonus is applied on top, a developer could double or triple the current heights - and the residents and businesses will have no say in the matter.

Please stay vigilant for the next call-to-action as we continue to educate and mobilize the public against these misguided upzoning plans.

Protect Neighborhoods, Support Merchants, Meet Housing Needs

The Richmond District, along with many neighborhoods in northern and western San Francisco, faces significant upzoning mandated by the State and City, aiming to raise building height limits throughout the area (view interactive map for details). These significantly taller structures won't address affordable housing but will instead lead to luxury high-rises, tenant and small business displacement, and neighborhood gentrification, profoundly impacting our quality of life.

No matter where you live, join us and rally your neighbors to gain understanding and take action—this issue impacts us all.

Senator Wiener's Bill (SB 951)

Opens SF Coastline for Development

Article Excerpt: "The existential threat that this legislation poses to the Coastal Act and the entire California coast is undeniable. Among numerous commission responsibilities affected, SB 951 ignores the agency’s essential role in planning for sea-level rise adaptation along San Francisco’s increasingly vulnerable coast. The excluded area includes land proposed for a controversial 50-story condominium and commercial project in the flats of the Outer Sunset neighborhood north of the San Francisco Zoo."
