ORR recently revised it's policy regarding fingerprinting requirements for Category 1 sponsors. Effective immediately Category 1 sponsors no longer require a fingerprint background check as part of the sponsor assessment process unless:
a public records check reveals possible disqualifying information;
there is a documented risk to the safety of the child;
the child is especially vulnerable;
or, the case is being referred for a home study.
Shelter case managers will continue to document sponsor's immigration status to determine whether a sponsor care plan is needed; however, confirmation of immigration status will not be required. ORR is exploring ways to obtain sponsor information status without fingerprints.
This notice is for your information for post release cases to Category 1 sponsors who may not have fingerprint results/information in the UAC Portal.
Please contact your assigned CSS if you have any questions.
