Mental Health Moments: Work-Related Stress (March)
Welcome to "Mental Health Moments," powered by SG Mental Health Counseling!
Marissa Batie-Collier, LMSW (Executive Director of SG Mental Health Counseling) provided 5 self-care tips to alleviate work-related stress:
Work-related stress can be a major burden on our mental health. It's important to find healthy ways to deal with it so that it doesn't become overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you manage work-related stress:
1.) Take regular breaks: Breaks can help reduce stress and give you a chance to refocus and re-energize. Taking regular breaks throughout the day can help you stay productive and be more creative in your work.
2.) Get organized: Being organized can help you manage tasks more efficiently and reduce stress. Make a list of important tasks and prioritize them. Set aside specific times to work on them and don’t forget to reward yourself when you’ve accomplished something.
3.) Communicate: Talking to your colleagues and managers can help you better understand your workload and make sure you can manage it in a way that works for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
4.) Take care of yourself: It’s important to take care of your physical and mental health. Make sure you get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet, exercise, and find ways to relax.
5.) Create boundaries: Establishing boundaries between work and personal life can help reduce stress. Create a schedule that works for you and stick to it. Make sure you set aside time to relax and spend time with family and friends.

Big Bend Homeless Coalition's "Home, Hope, & Promise" Event
|
WHAT IS THE HOME, HOPE & PROMISE EVENT?
Big Bend Homeless Coalition is hosting their first annual fundraising event to assist with their mission to provide housing to homeless families and veterans. The event will also be an opportunity to launch their new name: Family Promise – which will integrate them into a network of family shelters across the country with a like mission. Additionally, this event provides an opportunity to honor key members of our community that have made a difference as our housing champions.
This year’s awardees are: Representative Allison Tant, Leon County’s Shington Lamy and the Junior League of Tallahassee.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
The goal is to raise support for Big Bend Homeless Coalition.
• BBHC operates the only homeless shelter serving families in the greater Big Bend region. Daily, there are approximately 175 persons served, and a wait list of 50 more families.
• BBHC also operates affordable housing and is the largest entity, outside of the VA, providing housing services to veterans in need. Last year we provided housing assistance to over 300 veterans.
Join them on March 9th for some heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and a champagne toast in support of our mission as they honor key stakeholders and launch their new name, Family Promise!

Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Announces Availability of $142 Million to Fuel Small Business Growth
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced that $142 million in new capital is available for small businesses and startups through Florida’s State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). SSBCI, administered by DEO in partnership with Enterprise Florida, Inc., has five programs to serve small businesses that may not otherwise have access to the capital needed to grow their businesses, including very small businesses and sole proprietors. This multi-year initiative is part of Governor Ron DeSantis’ large-scale effort to prioritize workforce development, cultivate a business-friendly environment, and stimulate aggressive economic growth.
To be eligible, businesses must be Florida-based and have 750 employees or less. Funding through Florida’s SSBCI programs may be used to fund start-up costs, business procurement, franchise fees, equipment, inventory, and the purchase, construction, renovation, or tenant improvements of an eligible place of business. DEO encourages Florida-based small businesses to sign up for updates on funding opportunities through SSBCI.
In September 2022, DEO announced the approval of the state SSBCI application by the United States Department of the Treasury (U.S. Treasury) for $488 million in funding. Funding is available from U.S. Treasury in three tranches, and the first tranche of funding - $142 million – is ready for deployment.
Funding through the SSBCI program can be used serve small businesses of all sizes and stages of development. Available programs include:
• Collateral Support Program – Enables financing that might otherwise be unavailable due to a collateral shortfall. This credit enhancement uses public resources to encourage private lenders to lend money to businesses by providing a cash deposit as collateral for a business loan or credit facility.
• Venture Capital Program – Targeted investment strategy implemented on an appropriate scale that can attract capable investment managers to support Florida small businesses and create value. DEO will work with Enterprise Florida to secure partnerships with public entities and investment managers.
• Loan Participation Program – SSBCI funds are used alongside private funds to support a loan to a borrower. The SSBCI funds may be used as a companion loan, or the funds may purchase a portion of the loan made by the private lender. • Loan Guarantee Program – Provides a private lender with a short-term, partial guarantee to support a loan or line-of-credit for eligible small businesses.
• Capital Access Program – A pooled loan insurance program where a private lender originates a loan, and the borrower and lender contribute a percentage of the loan per eligible small business, which is then matched by SSBCI funding.
To provide lenders and statewide partners with more information on SSBCI programs, DEO will host a series of roundtable discussions. To receive updates on upcoming roundtables and SSBCI programs, sign up for updates.
Lenders and investment managers interested in partnering with the SSBCI program to serve local businesses can email SSBCI@deo.myflorida.com or reach Enterprise Florida at vvaldez@enterpriseflorida.com.
