We are also are also in the midst of onboarding new and returning students & tutors! The demand is so high for virtual learning assistance right now. Students in schools KAH tutoring serves are are especially at risk of falling behind in school right now for many reasons.

Do you enjoy working with youth? Are you willing to learn how to use Zoom? Do you want to make a difference?

If you said yes to all these questions, please APPLY to become a Kids at Heart Tutor by clicking the button below. Check out why one of our most dedicated Volunteer Tutors named Kaitlyn, tutors at UPLIFT. Here are her responses below:
Why do you tutor at UPLIFT?
"When I moved to San Diego I was looking to get involved with an organization that does meaningful work with immediate results. Continuing education has been a calling of mine because it contributes to the development of our communities by empowering our youth to have the confidence to take on bigger challenges. Tutoring for one hour a week may seem small, but it has an enormous impact."

Why do you care about tutoring youth?
"Growing up I was blessed with the opportunity to be surrounded by teachers and family members who not only encouraged me to read, but had the resources to help assist. It is incredibly gratifying to work with these students on reading or schoolwork because they are incredibly dedicated. Some face challenges many of us have never experienced, but they are always willing to learn (and smile while doing it)"

What’s the best part?
"The look on their faces when they finally “get it” and can explain or read a problem back to me is SO rewarding."

How many of you agree and resonate with Kaitlyn's wonderful responses? What moved you? We are moved and uplifted everyday by our amazingly dedicated volunteers and donors who choose to be of service to our neighbors in need. It is because of volunteers like you and Kaitlyn, that we get to UPLIFT and transform San Diego's inner-city communities everyday.

Triple Cross: Stepping UP CA ID Program for Neighbors Experiencing Homeless
Let's Get You Home!
Triple Cross has assisted in processing 150+ CA IDs since May 1st.
That's one step closer to home for 150 unsheltered souls.

The California ID card is the essential document for all homeless services and housing. By providing free application assistance and transportation to the DMV for the CA ID, the UPLIFT Triple Cross program unlocks housing options for our neighbors experiencing homelessness & hopelessness.

Triple Cross has provided the CA ID service, free of charge, to the homeless clients of Neil Good Day Center for 30 years, and the Navigation Center operated by Family Health Centers, which opened in 2019.

In May, we began serving those experiencing homelessness now sheltered at the San Diego Convention Center in response to COVID-19, with CA ID transportation and clothing requests provided the Rock Church Thriftstore.

All CA ID Clients are temperature checked, given masks & gloves and our awesome Program Manager & Driver, Rosie Vega spray and disinfects the van between trips. Huge shout out to Rosie who cheerfully pours God's love into helping our neighbors take one step out of poverty and closer toward living into their potential.

Thank you to those who donated last month! Your generosity allowed us to serve and transport 48 of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Every $50 donation helps pay for a week of gas to serve of our neighbors experiencing homelessness
The Home Team: La Jolla Presbyterian Children's Ministry Steps UP for COVID Motel Families' Sunday Funday!
UPLIFT continues to serve two motels of unsheltered families placed by Regional Task Force on the Homeless and case managed by multiple agencies as COVID 19 response.

In partnership with Rock Church Microsite Pastor Kenny Vargas & volunteer Keith Jones agreed to set up outdoor Sunday Funday sessions while microsites are closed due to COVID. Miss Yvette brings her guitar and everyone has a great time! Last week Pastor Kenny had the kids write their own rules of respect for Sunday. Great idea! They loved it!

Thank you letter from the children to Miss Suzie, Suzie Dhus, Director of Children's Ministries at La Jolla Presbyterian who has generously donated craft supplies & learning materials for the last 6 weeks of Sunday Fundays!
