UPLIFT Update Serving Our Neighbors During COVID-19

We are thinking of you and wanted to send some happy thoughts and gratitude your way in these challenging times. Your faithfully generous donations, innovative collaborations & encouragement have allowed UPLIFT to expand programs to meet the increased need due to the COVID pandemic. Please read on for some uplifting reports & success stories!
Triple Cross: CA ID Program Expands to Serve Convention Center Homeless
The California ID card is the essential document for all homeless services and housing. By providing free application assistance and transportation to the DMV for the CA ID, the UPLIFT Triple Cross program unlocks housing options for our neighbors experiencing homelessness & hopelessness.

Triple Cross has provided the CA ID service, free of charge, to the homeless clients of Neil Good Day Center for 30 years, and the Navigation Center operated by Family Health Centers, which opened in 2019.

In May, we began serving the those experiencing homelessness now sheltered at the San Diego Convention Center in response to COVID-19 pandemic, with CA ID transportation and clothing requests from the Rock
Church Thriftstore.

All CA ID Clients are temperature checked, given masks & gloves and our awesome Program Manager & Driver, Rosie Vega, spray-disinfects the van between trips. We are transporting 12 Clients a week, the max currently allowed by the DMV. Huge shout out to Rosie who cheerfully pours God's love into helping our neighbors take one step out of poverty and closer toward living into their potential.

Thank you to those who donated last month! Your generosity allowed us to serve and transport 48 of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Every $50 donation helps pay for a week of gas to serve 12 of our neighbors experiencing homelessness

The Home Team: Serving Motel Families, Sunday is Funday!
UPLIFT continues to serve two motels of unsheltered families placed by Regional Task Force on the Homeless as COVID 19 response.

In April, UPLIFT happily responded to a requst for assistance from RTFH, delivering books, toys, games. diapers & clothing. However more was necessary. Activities!

Rock Church Microsite Pastor Kenny Vargas & volunteer Keith Jones agreed to set up for Sunday Funday sessions while Microsites are closed for COVID.

What a blessing! Parents get a little break while kids do fun crafts, learn life skills & hear stories of Biblical hope & heroes.

Huge hugs to Susie Dhus, amazing Children's Ministry Director at La Jolla Presbyterian for help with ideas & supplies.

Kids at Heart Tutoring: Success Story!
Below Average Student to Pre-law
“My name is Zonia Sologaistoa, I am 19 years old. I graduated from High Tech High International last year, class of 2019. This is a photo of me & my Tutor Nikki from the Bank of America tutoring site. I am currently attending San Diego State University, majoring in Pre-Law with a minor in psychology and an emphasis in communications.
I began attending free Kids at Heart tutoring when I was nine years old and continued until I graduated from high school. I was a student who was below average in every subject and the UPLIFT Kids at Heart tutoring program helped me achieve academically. But the tutors not only help academically, they also help with emotional support. They become family and are willing to do more than what is expected.
My first tutor’s name was June, she was determined to help me become an outstanding student. June took time out of her day and would come to my home and tutor me extra hours. She challenged me to think and question everything. Every tutor I had helped me in many different ways. They helped me make connections with educated people as well as apply for jobs when necessary.
I believe Kids At Heart is determined to help low income and minority students like myself. I feel very fortunate and will never be thankful enough because they believed in me, believed that I would graduate and go on to one of the top universities. Kids at Heart is a family to me.”

An easy, fun way to benefit UPLIFT & another favorite
nonprofit, with a collaborative, shared revenue event
So many excellent San Diego region nonprofits are struggling with low donations and high demand for services. Like UPLIFT, these groups work tirelessly to end poverty, homelessness, social injustice and racial inequity. Join us in lifting up their work & the work of UPLIFT.
Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter. We sincerely cannot do what we do without you. We are so grateful that you are a wonderful supporter of our mission by sharing your time, treasure & talent. Thank you for keeping UPLIFT & those we serve in your prayers.

We promise to continue to multiply the blessings you share with us. None are too small for us to grow and meet more neighbors' needs. If you are feeling overwhelmed these days remember Nothing is too big for God to handle, and nothing is too small to escape His attention. UPLIFT Founder Burt Smith would agree, “When you focus on being a blessing, God makes sure you are always blessed in abundance.”
