UPMA GOLD WELCOMES:
Cyndia Gavin, Tom Wessling, Gerald Kramer, Sara Zibbel
SOUTHERN OFFICERS CONFERENCE (SOC) THIS WEEKEND!
The Southern Officers Conference (SOC) starts Thursday, October 10 and ends Sunday, October 13 in Louisville Kentucky! It’s not too late, here is the SOC Registration Form. The purpose of the SOC is to provide chapter officers (especially new and incoming officers) the training needed to be a successful leader in your chapter, and up the UPMA line of leadership if that is in your vision. You will also meet and mingle with national UPMA leaders, and candidates for national roles. Or, if you are a manager/leader wannabe, or you just want to be the best postal manager in your current position, or you have your eye on the next upward mobility postal position, there will be basic leadership and postal training. Retirees who remain leaders in your community and church will appreciated a new leadership perspective. Expect hot-off-the-press news from President Edmund, and retiree news and highlights from President Charley. Although the SOC is comprised of 13 chapters (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky, and Puerto Rico), chapters throughout the country come for the UPMA officer training and USPS internal news. There’s also fun activities, and all meals are included in registration fee! Hope to see you there!!
TOUR CHURCHILL DOWNS!
An optional tour of Churchill Downs is also planned on Saturday afternoon while we are in KY! Here is the registration form. You should contact Jill Smith to see if any tours are still available. Her contact information is: jillsmith1@logantele.com, or 270-841-2684.
DRESS ATTIRE SOUTHERN OFFICERS CONFERENCE: Charley Peters, Jill Smith
As with all our UPMA meetings, plan to dress business casual for meetings, and casual for free-time events. Keep in mind that hotels tend to keep meeting rooms cool, so you might want a light sweater or jacket. Weather forecast is upper 70’s to low 80’s and sunny to partly cloudy. Evening are 40’s to 50’s. For those attending Churchill Downs on Saturday, casual and comfortable shoes. If you want to dress the atmosphere, it is perfectly OK, but not required. The horses are not running this weekend. The next scheduled race is October 29.
ANNUAL FLORIDA UPMA BBQ AND STEAKOUT: Barbara Whidden
When the vegetable gardens are harvested and the flower garden has faded, our attention turns to the holiday season, the new year, and the ANNUAL FLORIDA UPMA BBQ AND STEAKOUT! The BBQ is scheduled for Friday at 4:00 on January 31; the Steakout will be same place on Saturday at noon, February 1. The attached BBQ/Steakout reservation has details of housing in the area, you are encouraged to make reservations early as the Mt.
