SENIORS:
Class of 2020 College Guidance Updates

On Monday, September 16th seniors and their parents gathered in our beautiful new Core Center for Senior College Night. Mrs. Crane and Mrs. Gerrity presented a concise overview of the remaining phases of the college application and admissions processes while sharing the very positive and reinforcing messages that our seniors are well prepared and equally well positioned in a process with many moving parts.

Guest speaker and seasoned college admissions expert, Mr. Jim Skiff, also joined the College Guidance Team to share his perspectives and college admissions industry insights which shed important light on the often overlooked, or underestimated factors at play on the increasingly competitive college landscape.
Attendees received personalized Senior College Guidance folders containing support materials as well as copies of their daughter’s initial Sacred Heart Greenwich transcript for review and approval. Please see Mrs. Crane or Mrs. Gerrity if you have not received your initial transcript.

Senior College Guidance classes have been humming with productivity. The Class of 2020 is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their college lists, meeting with their counselors, completing applications, writing essays and setting the stage to begin submitting applications. The seniors are being reminded of their vital role in assuming responsibility for many steps in their process:

 Maintaining their Naviance accounts
 Proactively researching admissions requirements
 Proactively researching standardized testing policies
 Sending necessary SAT or ACT score reports
 Monitoring all deadlines

College Rep Visits:
October is an exceptionally busy travel month for college admissions counselors.
Sacred Heart has scheduled over 40 visits to campus. Seniors are highly encouraged to attend these presentations. See Naviance for complete listing details.

Junior College Guidance Updates

PSAT/NMSQT Exam

All Sacred Heart Greenwich juniors will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT exam in school on the morning of October 16th . Complete details about the exam have been published in the weekly Friday announcement. Students are required to:

  • Arrive by 7:45am on October 16th
  • Be in full uniform
  • Bring several sharpened #2 pencils (no mechanical pencils)
  • Bring a College Board approved calculator. (see link below)

There will be no classes for juniors on October 16th . The PSAT/NMSQT exam will be followed by normal lunch service and afternoon programming for the class.

All athletic schedules will be unaffected.

The juniors have completed all pre-registration details and the exam will start promptly at 8:00am. Please adjust travel schedules accordingly, allowing extra time for unforeseen delays.

The PSAT/NMSQT is an important aspect of the college testing preparation process and we appreciate your support.

College Rep Visits:

Juniors are reminded to check Naviance for the many upcoming presentations
through October. We highly recommend that juniors attend these discussions
whenever their schedules may permit.
JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES:
PreACT:
On Saturday, September 28th nearly 100 juniors and sophomores took the PreACT at Sacred Heart. We thank those who participated in this optional sampling of an ACT exam experience. The ACT is currently scoring these practice exams. Details about these exam scores will be forthcoming.

Other Standardized Test Practice Opportunities:
Many of you who weren't able to take the PreACT, and others who want more SAT or ACT standardized test practice, have asked about organizations that offer testing opportunities. We post flyers when we receive them; know that most test prep companies offer free practice tests. Here are some upcoming examples:
SOPHOMORE COLLEGE GUIDANCE:
Checking In with Sophomores

During our last class cycle, Mrs. Crane and Mrs. Gerrity met with the sophomores in their seminar class periods to guide each sophomore in initiating their personal
College Board accounts.

The students were given guiding details about the use, importance and the role this account will eventually play in their college process. Any sophomore taking an AP Exam in May 2020 will be engaging their account to access AP Classroom support materials shared by their teacher. Please see below for information that was shared with the sophomores.
