COLLEGE GUIDANCE NEWSLETTER
October 1, 2018
SENIORS:
We have moved into the third cycle of Senior College Guidance and counselors have been working with seniors on using Naviance, completing the Common Application and sending SAT and ACT scores to colleges. The seniors have been editing college essays in collaboration with our English Department, and will have the opportunity to have additional one-to-one support with time dedicated to that on the morning of Oct. 10th. Mrs. Crane and Mrs. Gerrity have also been meeting individually with each of the seniors to advise them on deadlines and help finalize their college application lists. Seniors are reminded to please keep their Naviance college lists updated and to hand in the pink and yellow “traffic forms” when they have decided on which applications to file. Seniors and their families are encouraged to attend the Boston College event on October 4th.
Financial Aid FAQs…..

The 2019-2020 FAFSA application goes live on October 1st .

Below is a link to begin the FAFSA application.
In addition to the FAFSA application, many colleges and universities
REQUIRE that the CSS Profile application also be submitted as part of
the financial aid process. Below is a link to the CSS Profile as well as a
separate link to the most current listing of schools that require the CSS
Profile in addition to the FAFSA application.
THE COLLEGE ESSAY
A clear message can be heard throughout college admission circles: no matter the angle from which you view it, one of the most important aspects of a student's college essay is that it is hers, in her voice, and real. College admission counselors have been espousing this for years, but as colleges lean heavily into creating an even playing field for all applicants, an even greater emphasis is being placed upon this point. We encourage our girls to embrace the confidence in the writing skills they've honed throughout their years at Sacred Heart and take the messages of the articles shared below to heart, knowing that they have the ability to craft impressive, engaging, polished and meaningful college essays.
