UPTOWN FASHION WEEK RETURNS TO NORTHERN MANHATTAN

Uptown Fashion Week at The United Palace will promote awareness about domestic violence, an issue that closely affects the Northern Manhattan community, while top designers unveil latest lines

New York, NY-On Thursday, September 12th, 2013, Uptown Fashion Week arrived at the United Palace for its 3rd installment. Last season's show in February was a major success, proving to the fashion community that Uptown must be considered player in the New York City world of fashion. Uptown Fashion Week is fast becoming the place to be for socialites, celebrities and those seeking an alternative to the over-saturated Lincoln Center festivities. With a number of designers bringing new thoughts and ideas from around the world, Uptown Fashion Week has now established itself as a crucial stop on the fashion circuit, this year bringing top designer Michael Costello to show off his latest work. Uptown Fashion Week continues to actively build a fashion bridge from Downtown NYC, to Northern Manhattan in NYC.

The goal of Uptown Fashion Week is to provide an opening to the many talented designers from around the world to open up a new market in a community that is interested in fashion but is far from the lights of Lincoln Center. The show will feature 12 designers from around the world, particularly Latin America, and will feature Michael Costello of Project Runway fame.

This event is not just about fashion though, it represents a valuable opportunity to carry the message against domestic violence, a scourge that plagues the Northern Manhattan community more than many others in the city. With so many of the younger generation on hand to experience the sights, sounds and designs that go into fashion week events, bringing a social issue to the fore will ensure the crowd recognizes the need to stand up to domestic violence.

Fashion Week is fun and beautiful show that demonstrates that Northern Manhattan is rapidly growing and developing. Aside from a rich diverse market, the uptown community is becoming more and more essential to the socioeconomic well being of New York City. It is a community burgeoning with creativity and an eagerness to be taken seriously on the citywide stage.

The designers and participants had this to say:

"Uptown Fashion Week is an alternative to the mainstream destination for fashion intended to help the Washington Heights area piggyback off Lincoln Center's success, said Albania Rosario, Executive Director of Uptown Fashion Week." For the past couple of years, New York City has seen a major shift in nightlife, art and fashion from downtown to uptown and it seems that the media and the rest of the world are just now starting to catch on to this movement. My goals with this event were to highlight this movement as well as to bring attention to the underlying community problem of domestic violence. We hope that by focusing attention on this problem, we can end the damaging cycle of violence."

"It is our hope that this event is eye-opening in more ways than one," said Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, "both with the beautiful fashion and the highlighting of domestic violence that plagues our Northern Manhattan community. Albania and her team have done a fantastic job and I hope this event continues to bridge our wonderful neighborhood with the rest of the city."

"To be a creator of style & fashion can come in any form. Reach your goals at any age!" said Designer Devanna Booker

"Fashion is edgy, expressive & timeless. CLEONS is made for the laid back & highly energetic man and woman," said CLEONS Clothing.
