URGENT!
Support Needed at ICE Hearing!
ECM is reaching out because there is a member of one of our Episcopal churches who has an appointment with ICE on Friday, and her parish's Priest is calling for wide community support because we believe she is at high risk of deportation. Her appointment is at 8 am and we want a strong showing as she enters the ICE office in Burlington.
Please attend if you can, and share with your group if you have a way to do so before Friday.
B. is from Honduras and has been in Massachusetts since 2015. She applied for asylum but after losing her case in front of a judge with a very low approval rate, she received a "stay of removal" from ICE, allowing her to continue her life here. She is a polio survivor with disabilities and her current medical needs make ICE detention an extremely dangerous place for her to be. She has been called into the Burlington ICE office for an appointment, and her lawyer believes she is likely to be detained for deportation. She has chosen to go to the appointment but has asked for us to be there outside to support her.
All Clergy are encouraged to wear collars or other markers of their role in the faith community.
Join us Friday (8/15) outside of the ICE Office at 1000 District Ave, Burlington MA, 01803, starting at 7:30 AM. For parking, please use the nearby Macy's overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road), as parking is no longer allowed in ICE's own lot.
Let ECM Lead Organizer Hannah Hafter (hannah@ecmteam.us) know if you'll be able to join the group.
We hope to have a strong show of support there!
