Safety. Belonging. Hope. What does “home” mean to you? For over 75 years, JVS has welcomed individuals fleeing war and persecution, in search of a sense of “home.”
The Trump administration has issued several orders that impact refugee and immigrant communities. Last Monday's executive order halting refugee resettlement indefinitely blocks entrance of legal refugees into our country, denying these individuals the safety, dignity, and opportunity we ALL deserve. On Friday evening, JVS and resettlement agencies across the country were issued a stop-work order for the Reception & Placement program, which supports our work with refugees in the first 90 days, providing for basic needs like housing, food, healthcare, finding work, and enrolling children in school. To learn more, we invite you to read our statements in response to the Executive Orders.
When policies limit our ability to serve the resilient, hope-filled, and still, vulnerable individuals seeking safety, opportunity, and “home,” we look to our Kansas City community for support.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we collectively take a stand for light over darkness, hope over fear, and action over inaction. Together, we can demonstrate that our differences unite us – and that refugees deserve a place to call "home."
