The Medical Aid in Dying Act (MAID) (A995A/S2445A) is currently under consideration in the NYS legislature. 

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie will allow MAID to be voted on this week if the Senate will vote on it too. Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins has not yet agreed to allow the bill to come up for a vote.

THE PASSAGE OF MAID.

MAID dehumanizes and devalues the aged, diseased, and disabled. 

 MAID normalizes suicide and decriminalizes assisted suicide. 

• MAID allows for ‘mentally competent’ ‘terminally ill’ people, beginning at age 18, to request and consume deadly medication that will end their lives.

• Powerful evidence depicts the total number of suicides rising significantly where euthanasia is legal, especially impacting older women.

• Numerous professional associations and organizations oppose ASSISTED SUICIDE, including, American Medical Association, World Medical Association, National Council on Disability and American Association of People with Disabilities.
