There is not time to waste. This week, the Senate will likely vote on the White House's request to cancel lifesaving funding for international assistance. The process, called recissions, would revoke funding already approved by Congress and the Administration earlier this year.
Less than 1% of annual federal funding goes to international assistance. The proposed cuts, which already passed in the House of Representatives, would result in devastating impacts to programs and priorities of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States.
These programs include:
- Global health programs for maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, and infectious disease
- Migration and refugee assistance
- Economic support and development assistance
- The Complex Crisis Fund
- International disaster assistance
