As highlighted in the April 11 USA TODAY article, the Trump administration is reportedly considering a budget proposal to eliminate all federal funding for Head Start. This would be catastrophic for more than 1,000,000 at-risk children, their families, and our workforce — especially working mothers who rely on Head Start to stay employed.

While the elimination of Head Start would require an Act of Congress, the current political landscape makes our collective advocacy more important than ever. Now is the time to inform and influence our elected officials — before it's too late.

We must act swiftly and strategically to provide Members of Congress with the information and support they need to stand up for Head Start — before a proposal from the White House becomes a policy.

Without Head Start:

  • Hundreds of thousands of parents could be forced out of work
  • Women — who now make up nearly half of the U.S. labor force — would be disproportionately impacted, threatening economic progress and widening gender disparities.
  • Our most vulnerable children here in Louisiana and throughout the country would lose the stability, care, and comprehensive early education they deserve.

📢 Let’s send a unified message to Congress:

Head Start is essential, now and for the future of our nation. Defunding it is unacceptable.

Thank you for standing with us and with America’s children and families.

With gratitude,

Keith Liederman, Ph.D.
