The detailed conference agenda and sponsorship opportunities should be detailed by the end of May and registration will open shortly thereafter. Note that it is very likely that all venues where URISA events are hosted will require proof of vaccination from participants to comply with local jurisdiction guidelines.

Digging a Little Deeper into ETL for NG9-1-1 GIS Data

Local GIS data models and schemas for address points and road centerlines vary greatly and evolve based on locally requirements and tasks that GIS is asked to meet. The NENA GIS Data Model Standard provides a roadmap to what next generation core service (NGCS) providers expect, but the standard is also clear that "it is not expected that every entity will use the GIS data model described within this standard for its day-to-day internal use and maintenance but it is expected that each entity will be capable of exporting their internal GIS data model into a given GIS file format that complies with this standard as frequently as may be necessary. The data management concepts, geoprocessing steps, and routines that meet this need are commonly referred to as extract, transform, and load, or ETL. This presentation gives an overview of ETL concepts before turning to a specific use case of loading local road centerlines into the NENA GIS Data Model.

Exemplary Systems in Government Awards - Applications due June 7 |

Since 1980, URISA's EXEMPLARY SYSTEMS IN GOVERNMENT (ESIG) AWARDS have recognized extraordinary achievements in the use of geospatial information technology that have improved the delivery and quality of government services. The award competition is open to all public agencies at the federal, state/provincial, regional and local levels. The first ESIG Awards were presented in 1981 at the URISA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
2021 will be the 40th Anniversary of URISA ESIG Awards.
Each year, submissions are invited in two categories:

Enterprise Systems: Systems in this category are outstanding and working examples of using information systems technology in a multi-department environment as part of an integrated process. These systems exemplify effective use of technology yielding widespread improvements in the process(es) and/or service(s) involved and/or cost savings to the organization.

Single Process Systems: Systems in this category are outstanding and working examples of applying information system technology to automate a specific SINGLE process or operation involving one department or sub-unit of an agency. The system application results in extended and/or improved government services that are more efficient and/or save money.

URISA's GIS Hall of Fame honors persons and organizations that have made significant and original contributions to the development and application of GIS concepts, tools, or resources, or to the GIS profession. Take some time to review the individuals and organizations that are currently inducted into the Hall of Fame. Nominations for the 2021 class are due on or before May 31.
