The JagSat-1 has been launched! After several years, and many student and faculty hours in the lab, the JagSat-1 satellite was launched into space on July 14, 2022. It's purpose is to measure the plasma in the outer rim of Earth's atmosphere. Dr. Edmund Spencer, Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department developed a faster means of measuring plasma.
For more information on the JagSat-1,see the linked articles below:
Edgar Reyes, Civil Engineering Junior, received a Charlotte & Ed Rodgers Scholarship from the Alabama Road Builders Association (ARBA). The scholarship is competitive for Civil Engineering programs throughout the state of Alabama.
Congratulations to our "Cast in Steel" 2022 Team!
The Steel Founders Society of America hosted the 2022 “Cast in Steel” national competition in Columbus, Ohio. This year’s competition challenged students to design and produce a functioning Celtic Leaf Sword. As a part of the competition, each sword was put through a series of tests. This year the University of South Alabama team earned 2nd place in the “Best Authentic Celtic Leaf Sword” category. For the full article, see "2022 Cast in Steel."

Engineering Laboratories
Undergraduate Laboratory Equipment Campaign

The College of Engineering has launched an initiative to enhance our laboratories in Shelby Hall. These labs provide our students with hands-on experience and ensure that they are prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation. Your gift, of any amount, will have an immediate impact on our students and their future careers. To learn more about specific needs of each department, click Engineering Labs.
Faculty Research
Two University of South Alabama professors researching energy efficient forms of carbon-capture have developed a technology that reduces industrial power plant emissions using ionic liquids – salts in a liquid state that melt at relatively low temperatures.
Dr. Kevin West, Professor in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department and Dr. James Davis, Professor in the Chemistry Department have partnered with Norton Engineering Consultants to work on this research. For the full article, see "Cutting Carbon Emissions."
Dr. Jinhui Wang, an Associate Professor of electrical and computer engineering, leads his team to start the IRES (International Research Experiences for Students) program at the University of South Alabama on June 13, 2022. This program is funded by NSF and has a cultural experience component in addition to educational activities for the students. For the full article, see "NSF IRES Program."
