New Exhibit celebrates the Down the Bay
Neighborhood of Mobile
Visitors view the Down the Bay photos at our October 29 event at the Texas Street Recreation Center.
The McCall Library’s new exhibit by Jada Jones and student assistant Beau Shepherd features images of homes and businesses that were part of this historically Black neighborhood to the south of the downtown business district. These are the pictures that the Oral History team brought to Down the Bay Photo Sharing Day on October 29 (event pictured below). The McCall Library, together with partners from the Center for Archaeological Studies and the African American Studies program, have taken the opportunity to use our photo collections to enrich learning about the past through community Oral History. The images spark memories and reminiscences that shed light on Down the Bay.
The exhibit can be found in the McCall Library display cases, in the Marx Library 3rd floor hallway, through January 30, 2023.
