University Writing Center + JagSuccess =
Center for Academic Excellence @ Marx Library
Student Academic Success is excited to announce the new Center for Academic Excellence. Through opportunities created by minor restructuring, we combined the University Writing Center and the subject based tutoring offered through JagSuccess into one unit led by Dr. Frank Ard. The newly created Center for Academic Excellence is a full-service learning center offering subject tutoring, writing center consultations, first-year experience peer mentoring, class presentations, campus-wide workshops, and other academic enrichment programming, such as the Success Summit.

We also have the great good fortune of collaborating with USA Libraries to offer all services on the second floor of Marx Library. These changes allow us to streamline and focus our operations, in order to provide exceptional services that are easy for students to access. The CAE will have the highest standards for our tutoring, success programming, and student and faculty outreach.

We hope that you will share this news and encourage students to make a tutoring appointment or attend our academic success events.

Meet the New Government/Serials Documents Staff Member
The USA Libraries welcomes Lindy White, the new Library Technical Assistant II in the Government Document/Serials Department. She comes to USA with a combined background in history and libraries. Lindy received a Bachelor of Arts in history/political science from Louisiana State University, a Master of Arts in history from the University of South Alabama and a secondary teaching certification from the University of Mobile.

Most recently, Lindy has worked as a research historian for the History Museum of Mobile. She previously worked in public services at the University of Mobile's library, and served as an adjunct history professor. In her spare time, Lindy loves watching LSU football, reading Jane Austen, re-enacting colonial history and spending time with her family outdoors.
Swank Digital Campus
Most of the USA campus, based on usage data, is very familiar with the USA Libraries’ Kanopy streaming video service. What users may not be so aware of are the other options for streaming video available from the library, including Alexander Street Video, Films on Demand, and Swank Digital Campus.

Swank Digital Campus is a good choice for more popular feature films, including Disney titles. The USA Libraries license 40 titles from this provider. Our current holdings are heavy on animated titles, so these films will be especially useful for faculty and students in the visual arts, but other genres, including such documentaries as The Rise of Bitcoin and True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality , are represented as well.
The Swank interface is different from our other video resources in that users will only see available titles when using the portal. Faculty can view the entire catalog and request that titles be added to the USA Libraries’ holdings by registering as an instructor through Swank. Titles can also be requested by contacting the liaison librarian for the subject area or by contacting Kathy Wheeler, Assistant University Librarian for Collections.
