This excellent article from USA Today covers Pete Hegseth’s latest duty day Pentagon Christian worship service – a Christmas service held yesterday at which the Islamophobic, fire-and-brimstone Christian supremacist pastor Franklin Graham preached to the semi-captive audience that God is a “also God of hate” and a “God of War.”
The article features MRFF’s Mikey Weinstein explaining to non-military readers what “Voluntold” means. From the article (emphasis added):
“Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said servicemembers are being ‘voluntold’ to attend Hegseth’s worship sessions.
“‘When you’re told that he’s going to have a Christian praise service, and that is quote ‘optional,’ you’re being voluntold,’ Weinstein said.
“Weinstein, who served for a decade as a military lawyer, said he had heard from ‘over 150’ servicemembers who reported to the foundation that names of those who attended religious services were being recorded, and that servicemembers felt pressured to attend.
“While ‘very hard to prove,’ Weinstein said,’we have heard about all different types of retaliation’ against servicemembers who don’t attend worship services.
‘It eviscerates good order, discipline, unit cohesion and especially, morale,’ he added.”
