  • Record 69 countries and territories now ranked in women's softball, with Belize and Chile making debut. Canada earned most points while Belgium gained most places.
  • New Zealand knocked off men's softball No. 1 spot for the first time, by Japan. Argentina gain most points, climb to second place, its highest position. No. 13 Cuba and No. 36 Peru, the biggest winners.
  • Five Olympic continents represented in Men's Top 10, four Olympic continents in Women's Top 10 showing global reach of softball.

Lausanne, Switzerland; 15 January 2020 --  After an historic 2019 year, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced today the latest WBSC Softball World Rankings, which weigh a country's National Team performance in WBSC-sanctioned international competitions over a four-year period (2016-2019). 

After the 2019 season, a total of 73 countries and territories now feature in the softball rankings, including a  record-setting 69 countries in the WBSC Women's Softball World Ranking, including  Chile and Belize for the first time and Lesotho in the WBSC Men's Softball World Ranking .





The women's softball ranking welcomed two new countries - Belize and Chile - as it closed 2019 with a record number 69 participants. While at the other end of the ranking, four of the five Olympic continents - the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania - have at least one representative in the Top 10, reflecting an elite global representation not common in team sports.

Nothing changed in the top six spots of the ranking, with world No. 1 USA, No. 2 Japan, No. 3 Canada, No.4 Puerto Rico, No. 5 Mexico and No. 6 Chinese Taipei retaining their places in 2019 while Canada earned the most points with 1,478 and  Belgium was the top mover, from 47th to a best position of 37th. 






New Zealand was knocked off the top of the men's softball ranking for the first time, as Japan took over at the top of the world as the best men's softball national team program. World champions Argentina  earned the most points (1,620) in 2019 to claim second spot, its best position in world rankings history.

South Africa climbed two positions and for the first time ever is one of the Top 10 softball nations. confirming at least one representative from each of the five Olympic continents (Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania) at the top of the table.
