USATT Safesport Policy Implementation
(Courtesy of USATT) In January 2014, under the guidance and mandate of the United States Olympic Committee, USA Table Tennis (USATT) implemented a new SafeSport program for the purpose of ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for our entire community. More information about USATT's SafeSport policy, procedures, and enforcement can be found on the website.

We are implementing a policy of background checks and Safe Sport training for all in leadership  nationally, at the club and tournament level, for all USATT coaches, and for those who interact  with minors at sanctioned events. After meeting earlier this month with our insurance carrier,  we have been informed that we must now take a more active approach in ensuring the standard of  care outlined in our SafeSport Policy by enforcing the requirements of the program. ... (Courtesy of CBS News)  Wednesday marked  the 75th anniversary of The New York Times crossword puzzle , a puzzle, we might point out, that's featured all three anchors of "Sunday Morning" (myself included) as clues. As for the man who has edited the puzzle since 1993, he has the distinction of being a master of wordplay -- and, as Barry Petersen now reveals, master of a very different sort of game:

Will Shortz's passion is crossword puzzles, and he's world class -- editing the daily puzzle in The New York Times, and authoring or editing more than 500 crossword puzzle books.

"Solving a crossword is like putting the world in order," Shortz said. "And you don't get that satisfaction much in everyday life." . ... Read More

(Courtesy of NBA Talent Challenge) Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns NBA Basketball Team was one of 8 players to step up to the plate and take on the NBA Talent Challenge as part of the NBA All Star Weekend.

Booker teamed up with 2016 US National Coach of the Year Stefan Feth to show of his table tennis skills as he faced the judges of Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal to fight for victory.

Stefan had Booker doing some rapid footwork drills, playing with two balls at once and also playing with a paddle in each hand. All of these skills managed to impress most of the judges in awarding their points to Booker who received a 31 out of a maximum 40 points, not all too bad and with a forehand to kick! Keep going Devin! ;) ... Watch Now!
Why An Olympic Table Tennis Player Came To Memphis
(Courtesy of USA Today Network)  Word spread quickly Tuesday night about a new competitor in the Memphis Open's table tennis tournament. Some turned to Google to learn about him. Others crowded around phones, watching YouTube clips in silence and awe.
"I heard he's ranked 20th in the world!" someone said.

Atanda Musa couldn't hear the murmurs from his spot in an armchair across the room, where he smiled and waited for the tournament to begin.

He's not the 20th-ranked table tennis player in the world anymore. But he was. And that's not all: The native Nigerian won 10 African men's singles titles in his professional career. He was at one point considered the most dominant player on the continent ... Read More
How To Improve Your Consistency
(Courtesy of Ben Larcombe)  This is Episode 034 of the  Ask a Table Tennis Coach  podcast. Today  we have 2 questions on the topic of training to improve your consistency from Jim and James.
Jim asks...
"What is the best way of practicing to improve your consistency? I find that my shots can beat a lot of people but I still lose because my consistency is just not good enough, even after a lot of practice. I've heard it's purely about time on the table but I feel I may be practicing the wrong things and learning the wrong techniques, so more practice could be counter-productive."
James asks...
"Hi Ben! My question for you is how to improve consistency at looping in a match. During a match my loop lands about 60% of the time, compared to 90%. .. Read More
