Attendance Newsletter

Happy September Attendance Awareness Month,

We hope your school year is off to a great start and that you have some plans this month to celebrate Attendance Awareness Month.  Here are some helpful attendance resources for you for this month.

USBE Attendance Specialists

Utah Success Stories and Celebrations

American Academy of Innovation

This month we want to highlight the awesome attendance work happening at the American Academy of Innovation.  They are currently in their second year in the USBE Engagement and Attendance Cohort and are making a lot of progress when it comes to developing a sustainable attendance system in their school.  They have started working together as an attendance team to create plans for implementing attendance campaigns and messaging into what they are already doing with PBIS.  They are also working on identifying the appropriate data to help them make decisions when it comes to attendance in their school.  They have goals of reducing chronic absenteeism and have been involved in including the Statewide Attendance Campaign with what they are already doing at their school.  We appreciate their example of working hard and starting small.  Little changes can make a big impact with students and families.  Thank you for your wonderful example!

Park City School District

This month we also want to highlight the wonderful attendance work happening in the Park City School District. They have joined the USBE Engagement and Attendance Cohort and are working hard to promote positive attendance and develop attendance systems at all levels of learning within their district. They have developed a new district-level attendance team which includes social workers, school counselors, school deans, district personnel, and school administrators. They are meeting together as a team and discussing the ways they want to address attendance issues within their own district. They are setting goals and making plans on what they want to focus on this year and in the years to come. They have developed monthly promotional activities that will be promoted at the district level and facilitated by teams at each building. We appreciate their example of involving a lot of stakeholders and starting at the district level to address attendance issues!

Learning Portal Information

Dear Partners,

We are excited to share the development of the USBE Learning Portal for all requests for

professional learning, training, and technical assistance.

You may have previously used the Training Request Portal (TRP), varied forms, or direct email to request agency learning assistance. The Learning Portal is now the one-stop portal for all requests across the agency, streamlining the process to ensure you receive timely support. We have developed multiple resources to assist you in engaging with this new process. We suggest starting with the Learning Portal Overview for a quick 3-minute explanation of the entire system.

Additional resources include:

● USBE Learning Portal webpage: schools.utah.gov/learningportal

● Learning Portal quick link: bit.ly/usberequest

Learning Portal FAQ

● Learning Portal Request Walkthrough

● Learning Portal Preparation Document

We believe that this single agency-wide system will help streamline requests and help serve you better. We welcome questions as you learn about the process.
