USBE ISSUES WARNING TO PARENTS: STUDENTS CAN'T BE GUARANTEED PRIVACY

In the Standards and Assessments Meeting on Friday, as the USBE was discussing the guidance policy on gender identity, board members made a point to say that parents and educators need to know that there can be no expectation of privacy in gender assigned bathrooms and locker rooms.

UTAH GIVEN A "C" GRADE COMPARED TO OTHER STATES DUE TO INSUFFICIENT STANDARDS

Utah's K-6 Social Studies standards were given a "C" grade by the reputable Fordham Institute. These encompass American History and the study of the U.S. Constitution. We need our USBE to do a better job of educating students on American History.

Find comparisons of Utah standards and A standards from other states at this link: https://ripl.se/oO

What can you do about it?

1.Sign this petition and join with Utah Citizens for the Constitution to petition the Utah State School Board to ask them to rewrite Utah's standards to achieve an "A" rating. You can sign the petition here: Utah School Standards Petition Survey

2.Take this Public Comment Survey explaining your concerns. It is appropriate to say for each standard, "not sufficient.":

PORN IS STILL IN YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL

A Rockstar Group of 30 Parents in Murray went through their libraries and found over 100 books that were concerning to them. They documented their concerns and sent them to their administration. You can read more about it here:

100 Books in Question In Murray - Utah Parents United

During the Utah State Board of Education Law & Licensing Committee Meeting last Friday, Board Members discussed the explicit content that is currently in libraries across the state.

The Utah State Board of Education will take up a rule in January regarding explicit content in school libraries, however that leaves pornography in schools until they can develop and implement said policy.

What can you do now?

1.Contact your child's principal and express your concerns about the explicit content being found in schools across the state.

2.Contact your local school board and explain what you've found in your child's school.

3.Email your USBE representative and explain We need a policy that gets these books out of schools!

4.Email your House Representative and Senator and explain what's happening with explicit content in schools. Tell them you do not want your child exposed to that kind of material and you want your money back, so you can send your child to a school that takes these concerns seriously.

5.Join the Facebook Group, LaVerna in the Library to see what has been found in Utah Public Schools across the state.
