Oscarson Elementary

(Piute School District)

This month we would like to highlight the amazing efforts being made at Oscarson Elementary in Piute School District.  They have implemented positive incentives at the individual, classroom, and school levels to encourage strong attendance and reinforce that every day at school matters. At the individual level, students are recognized through ten-day attendance "streak" incentives and quarterly rewards for perfect attendance. Classrooms work toward a shared goal by coloring in letters each day all students are present; once they complete “Every Day Counts,” they earn a class reward such as extra break time, a game, or a small treat. Each month, the class with the highest attendance earns “Bob the Builder,” our Golden Bulldog mascot, along with a small treat and attendance tickets for end-of-year prize drawings. As a whole school, they celebrate 100% attendance days with quick rewards like dance parties or treats, and if overall attendance improves from last year, they will hold a school-wide “atten-dance” celebration.  They also joined our Statewide Attendance Challenge and have committed to making attendance a priority at their school. We appreciate their positive approach to attendance at their school.  Thanks for your example!

Orem High School

(Alpine School District)

This month we would like to highlight the awesome attendance work happening at Orem High School in Alpine School District and the future Timpanogos School District. At Orem High they have made attendance a top priority, and it shows in the daily efforts being made by all stakeholders. Their principal and assistant principal have joined the Statewide Attendance Campaign, "Every Day Counts" as attendance ambassadors. Their school also joined the Statewide Attendance Challenge and committed to working together to improve attendance as a school. They implemented new technology to help with the tracking of absences and tardies and hall passes. Students are given rewards and acknowledgements when they show up to school and go to class on time. They have integrated their attendance with their PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) and it is really showing students that they can still be rewarded even when they do not have perfect attendance. Students always have an incentive and are never disqualified to win prizes even if they have a bad week or bad term. Everyone is approaching attendance from a positive perspective and encouraging all students to come to school. We appreciate their time and dedication to addressing attendance at their school!

We are excited to announce that the Statewide Attendance Campaign, Every Day Counts will be continuing for the 2026-2027 school year. There are multiple ways to get involved! You can consider becoming an Statewide Attendance Ambassador or joining the Statewide Attendance Challenge. You can find out more on our website. More details will also be coming in August.
