Hispanic-Serving Institutions Education Grants Program - USDA-NIFA-HSI-007752

This competitive grants program is intended to promote and strengthen the ability of Hispanic-Serving Institutions to carry out higher education programs in the food and agricultural sciences. Programs aim to attract outstanding students and produce graduates capable of enhancing the Nation's food and agricultural scientific and professional work force. Projects supported by this program:

  1. Attract and support undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups in order to prepare them for careers related to the food, agriculture, natural resources and human (FANH) sciences in the United States.
  2. Enhance the quality of postsecondary instruction within the above disciplines.
  3. Provide opportunities and access to FANH careers in the public and private sector.
  4. Align the efforts of HSIs and other non-profit organizations to support academic development and career attainment of underrepresented groups.

Limited Submission
UNLV is limited to TWO Collaboration applications and TWO Conference applications. There is no limit on the number of regular applications.
Deadlines
OSP Required Notice of Intent Due: 11/03/2020 Noon
Submit NOI via the Limited Submission Portal
No late submissions will be considered. Information needed: PI information, project title, one page abstract and three potential internal reviewer names.

Highlights
Project Types: The HSI grant program will only accept Education/Teaching projects.

Grant Types:
  1. Regular grant - support targeted, original, scientific Education/Teaching projects. Funded at $250,000 total for a period of four years.
  2. Collaboration grant - two or more HSIs forming a linkage arrangement for the purpose of carrying out common objective(s) on the group's behalf. Funded at $1,000,000 total for a period of four years.
  3. Conference grant - support scientific meetings that bring together educators to identify research, education/teaching, and/or extensions needs, update information, or advance an area of education/teaching. Not to exceed $50,000 for up to two years.

Eligibility: Applications may only be submitted by Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI). UNLV is a HSI.

Cost Sharing: Not required.

Notice of Intent
At least two weeks will be given to submit a NOI (abstract/summary 1 pg max).

Pre-Proposals
If NOIs received exceeds maximum number of proposals permitted, at least two weeks will be given to submit a pre-proposal (project narrative 4 pg max and budget amount overview).

Internal Review
A review committee of peers is established and will have at least two weeks to review submitted pre-proposals. The committee recommends which proposal(s) best meet sponsor's criteria and which best align with the mission of the department, college, and university.
