USDA Promises Fix for ‘Product of USA’ Meat Labeling
The Federal Trade Commission finalized a rule tightening the use of the “Made in the USA” label. Although the rule does not require specific actions be taken regarding beef labeling, in conjunction with this rule, USDA announced a top-to-bottom review of the “Product of the USA” label.

USDA announced last year its intention to conduct its own rulemaking to address the concern that the voluntary "Product of USA" label may confuse consumers about the origin of Food Safety and Inspection Service regulated products.

An expected executive order by the Biden Administration this week could have a sweeping impact on agriculture, including creating a new rule aimed to increase competition in the meat industry and protect livestock producers.
Beef Quality Assurance Certification Meetings Scheduled
The UW-Madison’s Division of Extension and the Wisconsin Beef Council will be hosting a set schedule of in-person Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification meetings over the coming months. In-person sessions are intended for those who cannot complete the online certification available by going to https://www.bqa.org/ and clicking on ‘Certification’.
U.S. Beef and Pork Exports Reach New Heights
Fueled by impressive growth in a wide range of destinations, U.S. beef and pork export value shattered previous records in May, according to data released by U.S. Department of Agriculture and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF). Beef exports also reached a new volume high in May, while pork export volume was the third largest on record.
