Our year end wrap up of the Basins of Relations Watershed Technician Training Program!

We’re excited to announce the graduation of five young adult apprentices from our Fall 2021 Basins of Relations Training Program!
These West Contra Costa County residents spent the last 12 weeks deepening their understanding of the fundamental interconnectedness between the health of the community and the health of our watershed ecosystem.
In addition to gaining hands-on skills in native plant propagation, green infrastructure installation, vegetation management, and erosion control, and our outdoor classroom sessions introduced the apprentices to topics necessary to understand and reconnect to the land

Urban Tilth Applies for Organic Certification
Next year the North Richmond Farm will be taking an important step forward, we will be applying for Organic Certification.
Since the very first seed was planted at NRF, we have been operating following sustainable practices, we have worked on building healthy soil to sustain strong, nutritious plants, and we have stayed away from chemical pesticides and fertilizers. These are some of many practices we have adopted...

Richmond High Youth Feed Their Community
The Richmond High School Student Run Farm stand started in August of 2021. Our goal was to offer this as a service learning component of the Urban Agriculture Course where students get the opportunity to grow, harvest, and distribute the 2,000 lbs of crops they cultivate per year in the garden to students, and families in need at Richmond High School!
Typically every other Monday, 75 students from the Urban Agriculture Course harvest fresh produce and flowers from the 1,600 square foot raised bed garden located at Richmond High School..

On Sunday, November 19th, we were able to distribute food to 100 families at the Apostolic Temple of Truth on South 13th Street and Ohio Ave...

It Takes Roots Delegation Demands Real Answers: COP26 Recap
Politicians and governments from all over the world came together for COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, to discuss plans on how to limit carbon emissions to avoid the earth’s temperature from exceeding more than 1.5 degrees celsius.
Sadly, the It Takes Roots delegation, a 60-person delegation representing Indigenous, Black, brown and other frontline communities of color including members of Urban Tilth;'s staff, found itself dwarfed by 500+ fossil fuel company representatives. It Takes Roots delegates were excluded from the rooms where negotiations were held and fossil fuel lobbyists seemed to have no problem influencing negotiations directly. For decades, communities on the front lines...
