From her roots on a Florida farm to the front lines of global disease elimination at the COPH, Dr. Kristi Miley has transformed her lifelong connection to animals and the natural world into a career devoted to infectious disease research, medical entomology and public health education.

Five years strong: USF students improving health outcomes and reducing isolation among older adults

At the height of the pandemic, two programs launched to connect people across generations. Five years later, Health Buddies and TelePals have connected hundreds of older adults with USF students, reducing loneliness and increasing access to health information.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor has designated April 28 as Occupational Safety and Health Day, aligning the city with the internationally recognized World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The designation also acknowledges the ongoing efforts of the USF SafetyFlorida Consultation Program.

National spotlight shines on award-winning Florida physician

A family medical doctor honored by a COPH for her philanthropic work has accepted a prominent position in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.

Grads Made Good

COPH alumna receives USF's outstanding young alumni award

Alumna Stefania Alastre Arcusa was introduced as one of USF's recipients for the 2025 Outstanding Young Alumni Award at a ceremony on April 10. The award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated emerging and unique innovation, creativity and career success.

Health scientist and former ORISE Fellow relishes mentor role

Directly out of undergrad, Sara Wolicki worked as an accountant at a Vermont ski resort. She loved working with numbers and enjoyed the time with her coworkers, but something was missing. Wolicki found that missing piece in the field of public health - epidemiology and evaluation specifically - and never turned back.
