Quelling the loneliness epidemic one conversation at a time

Even before COVID-19 reared its head, roughly 50 percent of U.S. adults reported experiencing measurable levels of loneliness. These sobering statistics, as well as prompting from Dean Donna Petersen to address the issue, led the COPH’s Activist Lab to develop a program called “Let’s Chat.”

How one alum works to change health care delivery

Matthew Strohhacker had an early introduction to public health. While midway through his undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati, Strohhacker reconnected with a mentor from his time at University Hospital who pointed him in the direction of public health.

The USF COPH's applied biostatistics concentration provides educational opportunities for students to acquire a basic knowledge of biostatistical methods for solving public health problems. The concentration trains students to be able to design studies, implement data collection and management plans, formulate analysis plans and conduct analysis and report and communicate analytical results.

Marie Lourdes Amisial, MBA, BSPH, is a compliance analyst with insurance administration at BayCare Health Plans in Tampa, Fla.

 

Marie Dessanti, MPH, is a program coordinator at Rutgers University School of Public Health.

 

Katelynn (Antonso) Glisson, MSPH, is a lieutenant (O-3) with the U.S. Navy and is assigned to monitoring air quality at U.S. bases in El Salvador and Peru for contaminants associated with local sugar cane burning.

 

Desiree Norat, MPH, is a program assistant with the translational research administration team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
