Mental health, minors and the muddy waters between a parent’s right to know and a child’s confidentiality

States vary greatly on what kind of mental health services clinicians and school counselors can provide to minors and how transparent they must be with parents. To help set the record straight for both parents and clinicians, Dr. Katherine Drabiak co-authored the paper, “Parental rights laws and the impact on mental health services and counseling for adolescents,” published in May in the Journal of School Health.

When Stephanie Carraway relocated to Tampa from Florida’s East Coast 12 years ago, she took a job as a secretary in the infection prevention department at Moffitt Cancer Center. From there, she became deeply inspired by the department, prompting her to pursue a specialization in infection prevention.
