Renewing, reinforcing and reimagining COPH partnerships in Panama

In October, COPH Dean Donna Petersen traveled to Panama, meeting with Panamanian public health professionals, COPH alumni and health ministry officials. The trip’s aim was to renew existing partnerships and forge new ones ahead of the 20-year anniversary of the Panama Program, housed within Panama’s City of Knowledge.

The Federal Open Enrollment Period to sign up for or change health insurance plans runs from Nov. 1, 2023, through Jan. 15, 2024. Navigators from Florida Covering Kids & Families, housed within the COPH, along with their community partners are poised to help consumers find health insurance plans that are right for them.

Food insecurity affects Black and Hispanic students disproportionately—but for surprisingly different reasons

Researchers from the COPH along with colleagues, other universities and organizations, studied food insecurity among racially and ethnically diverse college students and were surprised to find differences in the factors that limit their access to food.

Finding a home away from home in public health

Initially inclined toward medical school, COPH alum Marie Denis-Luque discovered her true passion was public health. Her involvement in the Haitian Club Creole on USF’s campus and learning about public health from a fellow club member played a significant role in this shift.
