COPH student and first-generation college student receives WLP scholarship

A daughter of migrant farmworkers, Jazmin Sanchez’s story touched the hearts of many at the 17th Annual USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy (WLP) Fall Symposium on Oct. 4. The BSPH student was selected as this year’s recipient of the WLP Lolita Sauza Visot Memorial Scholarship and student speaker for the sold-out symposium.

One in four people in the United States has some type of disability according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As many as 80% of disabled individuals have invisible disabilities that can include ADHD, learning disabilities, psychological conditions or mental health concerns.

Grads Made Good

In remembrance of Amanda Gill

COPH alumna Amanda Gill had a heart for helping others. A graduate of the first BSPH class in 2011, her parents said Amanda had a passion for working with people with infectious diseases and always said she wanted to work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or in Africa to help AIDS patients.

Nolan Kline, PhD, MPH, is an associate professor in the UCF College of Medicine Department of Population Health Sciences in Orlando, Fla.

 

Lydia Mikhail, DrPH, is the director of the Long Beach Public Health Laboratory in California.


Luis Pieretti, PhD, CIH, CSP, is an associate professor in the USF College of Public Health and serves as director of the USD OSHA Training Institute Education Center and Sunshine Education & Research Center in Tampa, Fla.
