New research shows hospitalizations for birth defects have disproportionately high costs

A team of researchers led by COPH doctoral student Justin Swanson has found that although people under age 65 born with birth defects make up just 4.1% of inpatient hospitalizations, their medical treatment accounts for nearly 8% of total hospitalization costs.
