USF prof's app targets mosquito habitat, fights tropical diseases

Benjamin Jacob’s creation is saving lives now and in the future. The COPH associate professor has developed a smartphone app that pairs his artificial intelligence algorithms with a drone and satellite images to find all the mosquito habitats in an area and then treat and destroy them the same day.

Vape-free victory

The COPH Vapes on Campus project has been named the Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County’s Member Champion of the Year– Smoke-Free Initiatives, recognizing the team’s statewide impact on vaping and nicotine prevention among college students. The award was presented Sept. 18 in Fort Lauderdale.

Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Lashae Rolle’s journey to USF’s College of Public Health started when she came to the U.S. for high school in Wichita, Kan. Later Rolle played collegiate basketball at Texas A&M International University .
