Read USF’s latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates.
When the USF Student Health Services put out a call late in the summer looking for both clinical and non-clinical volunteers to support its office in providing COVID-related vaccination and testing services to students, several COPH students didn’t hesitate to lend a hand.

COPH faculty members have come together to provide credible public health messages and combat misinformation in Spanish. Salud Latina USF, as the group calls itself, includes Spanish-speaking faculty from the COPH.

According to Dr. Dina Martinez Tyson, chair of the college’s research committee funding these grants, a total of 15 proposals were received for this year and seven were awarded. One COPH internal seed grant has helped the research efforts of Dr. Mahmooda Khaliq Pasha blossom into more than half a million dollars.

Dr. Lynn (Marty) Martin and colleague Dr. John Orrock from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, have been awarded a nearly $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study Lyme disease ecology.

Receiving the flu vaccine is a safe and effective way to help prevent the flu and getting vaccinated is more important now than ever. Please encourage your patients, staff, family and friends to be vaccinated this year. For the convenience of our patients, USF Health is providing several opportunities for you to receive the flu vaccine.

Five COPH alumni have transitioned from classmates to working colleagues: Dr. Malinee Neelamegam, Dr. Nolan Kline, Dr. Stacey Griner, Dr. Erika Thompson and Dr. Charlotte Noble.

Alumna Stephanie Volpe was recently named associate director of global safety epidemiology at the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in Cambridge, England.
