This year's event will be hosted by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1 where recent renovations to their building and parking lot boast substantial sustainable features. The 40,000 square foot building was built in 1960 and is on the National Register of Historic Places for its  modernist design. Renovations include a solar canopy on their parking lot that provides 160 kWh annually (enough to power 15 average sized homes) and electric vehicle charging stations; new HVAC system projected to save $22,000 annually; added insulation, a white roof, new windows, updated LED lighting, and water efficient fixtures.

We hope you'll join us in welcoming the New Year and contributing to our goal of making every building a green building!

CleanCity of St. Louis 100% Clean Energy Report

For more than 18 months, a dedicated group of volunteer consultants worked to develop a Pathways Report to provide suggested ways to meet St. Louis' 100 percent clean energy goal by 2035. There are multiple tools and strategies that could be used to provide 100 percent clean energy and each has a different set of costs, economic benefits, avoided emissions, health benefits, and potential to create jobs. The proposed Pathways were evaluated and scored according to the five goals set by the Advisory Board, which were reaffirmed by the community.

Some suggestions from the report are already moving forward, such as Solar-Ready requirements for new construction. Others, like a Building Energy Performance Standard, are in development.

We are honored that USGBC-Missouri Gateway played a role in this report. Executive Director, Emily Andrews, served on the Clean Energy Advisory Board and the Technical Committee to the board.

boardscommissionsSt. Louis County Boards and Commissions

Have you ever wondered how decisions get made at the local level? Often its through appointed board and commissions at the county or municipal level - and local government entities are always looking for citizens with relevant experience to apply. That could be you! USGBC-Missouri Gateway Members can help bring green building, energy efficiency and sustainability practices to the forefront locally by researching opportunities with local boards and commissions.

St. Louis County has been in the news lately as they seek to get their boards updated. Maybe there's a fit for you - from Air Pollution to Building Code Review to Electrical Code Review. And more!

Submit an application to St. Louis County>

Your local municipality might need volunteers too - check out their websites if you're interested. And if you live outside St. Louis City or County, there are likely opportunities where you live as well.

If you do apply, be sure to notify your County Councilperson or Alderperson. And let the Chapter know if you get appointed. We like to keep track of the great work our members are doing in the community!
