USHSR - bringing 21st century transportation to America!

US High Speed Rail Association, Washington, DC

We are excited to announce that Jacobs has joined the Executive Committee of the US High Speed Rail Association.

The US High Speed Rail Association (USHSR) is pleased to welcome Jacobs to the Executive Committee of USHSR. This strategic collaboration underscores Jacobs’ continued commitment to advancing high-speed rail as a transformative force in sustainable mobility, economic development and equitable access across the United States and globally.

USHSR is driving a national effort to modernize America’s transportation network, and is co-chaired by former U.S. Department of Transportation Secretaries Ray LaHood and Anthony Foxx, along with Rod Diridon, Chair Emeritus of the California High-Speed Rail Authority.

USHSR has already helped secure over $30 billion in federal and state funding for high-speed rail projects, with an expected $50 billion in industry services to be procured over the coming years.

Jacobs is shaping the future of high-speed rail with a legacy of global impact, technical excellence and a deep commitment to sustainability. With more than 70 years of experience in rail and transit, Jacobs delivers across the full project lifecycle — from early planning and environmental clearance to design, construction and operations.

"We are excited to welcome Jacobs to our fast-growing Executive Committee," said Andy Kunz, USHSR President. "Jacobs brings extensive civil engineering experience in rail to our large group of global experts."

Jacobs works with global clients to provide a range of expertise and services that are demonstrated through more than 5,500 kilometers of high-speed rail to date. Jacobs utilizes and integrates local knowledge with our global expertise to successfully deliver complex solutions and leverage our dynamic capabilities to deliver technical excellence, innovation and value.

Jacobs’ high-speed rail expertise encompasses a range of professional services, including consulting and advisory, technical, scientific, project delivery and program management for governments and the private sector. The company delivers technical excellence and value by working collaboratively with our clients and drive long-term efficiencies across the development, design and delivery of projects.

Jacobs leverages advanced digital tools — including BIM, digital twins, and AI-powered analytics — to enhance design precision, reduce risk and improve long-term performance. Their multidisciplinary teams deliver rail systems that are always economically and technically robust, and harmonious with and considerate of the environment, sustainability targets and community impacts.

As countries invest in next-generation infrastructure, Jacobs continues to lead with innovation, global best practices and a proven track record of delivering the rail systems of tomorrow.

Jacobs is delivering final design services for Brightline West, a high-speed rail system connecting Las Vegas to southern California. The 218-mile, all-electric corridor will support trains reaching 200 miles per hour, offering a fast, sustainable alternative to I-15 highway travel. Jacobs’ work includes final design for stations, maintenance facilities and train control systems— key infrastructure that will help reduce emissions, ease congestion and enhance regional connectivity across the U.S. Southwest.

In California, Jacobs serves as lead designer for Construction Package 2-3 of the California High-Speed Rail program, covering a 65-mile segment through the Central Valley. Jacobs developed design alternatives that reduced construction costs by over $500 million and cut CO₂ emissions during construction by more than 200,000 tonnes. This redefined design is projected to save in maintenance costs over the life of the project.

Jacobs supported MyHSR Corp in Malaysia as Technical Advisor, assisting with planning and design of the Malaysian section of the Kuala Lumpur–Singapore high-speed rail. Jacobs completed a feasibility study and provided transport planning, ridership forecasting and reference design for five intermediate stations, including associated infrastructure such as access roads and pedestrian links.

Jacobs has supported High Speed 2 (HS2) Ltd. in the United Kingdom since 2016 in multiple roles. Initially as a development partner and now as Engineering Delivery Partner, and designer to the most advanced and successful of the civils contracts. In that role Jacobs is completing detailed design for 21.6 kilometers of high-speed infrastructure, including a 3.4-kilometer viaduct, 16 kilometers of twin-bored tunnels, and five intervention and ventilation shafts — bringing an award winning lessons in sustainability and unique combination of high-speed rail and program management expertise to one of Europe’s most ambitious rail programs, and providing transformative positive impacts to the environment and biodiversity.

In the United Arab Emirates, Jacobs successfully delivered a feasibility study for a high-speed railway between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, designed for speeds of 320–350 kilometers/hour. Their scope included demand assessments, railway operations planning, rolling stock definition and full engineering services —supporting the development of a corridor that will transform mobility across the Emirates.

Jacobs is supporting the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) as a strategic partner in planning and delivering new high-speed rail lines connecting Stockholm, Gothenbur and Malmö. The work spans three major corridors — East Link (Järna–Linköping), Göteborg–Borås and Hässleholm–Lund — forming part of a 660-kilometer network aimed at boosting capacity, cutting travel times and advancing sustainable transport. Jacobs is providing technical expertise across planning, systems, design and delivery to help Sweden realize a faster, greener and more connected future.

"Joining USHSR’s Executive Committee reflects our deep belief in the power of high-speed rail to transform lives, communities and economies,” said Jacobs Global Solutions Director for Rail & Transit Gavin Fraser. “At Jacobs, we combine global expertise, digital innovation and a passion for sustainable infrastructure to help deliver rail systems that connect people, reduce emissions and shape a more equitable future.”

USHSR

USHSR mobilizes leading labor organizations, designers, builders, suppliers, project owners, and public agencies to advocate for investments that will make high-speed rail a reality in America.

USHSR is led by our Executive Committee and headed by a distinguished, bipartisan group of former USDOT Secretaries including Ray LaHood and Anthony Foxx, along with transportation leader Rod Diridon.

Recently, USHSR helped deliver more than $20 billion in state money from California for their visionary high speed rail project, as well as more than $6 billion in federal grants to the two leading true high speed rail projects advancing the U.S. high-speed rail industry. USHSR secured the eligibility for high-speed rail projects for at least $12 billion in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, as well as $10 billion in a separate, dedicated high-speed rail program in the Build Back Better Act.

USHSR’s advocacy helped deliver major funding for rail projects including the passage of $66 billion for passenger rail in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law - the single largest federal rail investment in U.S. history!
