  • Study rooms and carrels will be available Fall 2020 for individual study only by appointment. Select the start time for the reservation and book up to 3 hours at once by changing the end time in the dropdown. At the start time, please check-in at the Library Services Desk to confirm appointment upon entry. Please have emailed confirmation ready.

Academic Skills
The Academic Skills Office is dedicated to enhancing student success and the educational process at the University of Southern Indiana. They provide academic support services through classes and other learning assistance programs. This fall Academic Skills and The Writers' Room is offering a variety of in-person and virtual learning assistance options. Face coverings are required and physical distancing protocols will be followed when students seek in-person learning assistance.

Services Offered:
Academic Support -- Academic Skills personnel are available on an as-requested basis to meet with individual students and to deliver workshops to classes and student organizations about the following topics: successful academic planning, note-taking, and test-taking strategies.Students can also find strategies and worksheets to help them become successful college students by viewing or downloading our  Academic Survival Guide.
Tutoring -- Walk-in help rooms will provide assistance with math, biology/ chemistry, and business courses. Tutoring is available during the fall and spring terms when classes are in session during the following times: Monday-Thursday - 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Friday - 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

  • Individual tutoring appointments can be made through Tutortrac in myUSI or by calling the front desk at 812-464-1743
  • Students may request virtual tutoring sessions by emailing Online.Tutoring@usi.edu.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) -- Academic Skills offers a blend of in-person and virtual supplemental instruction (SI) sessions for various courses this Fall. SI is a voluntary program that offers free, regularly scheduled study sessions for traditionally difficult courses. SI sessions are led by undergraduate student SI Leaders who have taken the course and demonstrated academic competency in the subject area. Each SI Leader facilitates several 50-minute sessions per week using collaborative learning methods. SI is not available for all courses; please check your syllabus to see if SI is offered for the course.

What is DegreeWorks?
DegreeWorks is a tool students and advisors use to track degree completion. Students can develop semester-by-semester course plans, determine GPA, and more! Check it out!
David L. Rice Library
Rice Library is offering several services to facilitate the safety and health of its users and library workers during the pandemic. Students are encouraged to take advantage of extensive digital resources and online services, including walk-in item pickup and curbside item pickup. The Library is also offering online reservations for first floor study and technology spaces.

Library Hours beginning Monday, August 24:
  • Monday through Thursday | 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday | 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday | Noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday | Noon to 10 p.m.

Disability Resources
Disability Resources (DR) coordinates services and academic accommodations for USI students with disabilities to ensure equal access to facilities, programs, services and resources of the university. We review documentation for eligibility, collaborate with students to determine appropriate accommodations, assist with the implementation of the accommodations, offer support and guidance, and advocate for access as needed.

Upcoming Events
Emerging Leaders offers USI freshman students the opportunity to develop new leadership skills, make new friends, and contribute to their university community. This program focuses on preparing individuals to succeed and contribute to USI as student leaders in subsequent years. To learn more and apply for the program, go to USI.edu/leadership
Students, come meet the Emerging Leader Program Mentors and other new students, learn more about Emerging Leaders, and make new friends this Saturday, August 29 from 1-3 pm in the Rec Quiet Room (main floor). Please bring Student ID and a face covering. See you there!
On Friday, August 28 at 6:30 pm, Chi Alpha Campus Ministry is inviting everyone to come out to their welcome week bonfire at Eicher Barn! It will be a fun time to meet people and play games!

INVOLVEMENT WEEK 2020! (August 31-September 4)

This 100% virtual week is designed to help you get connected to student organizations and departments at USI. All week we will be featuring student organizations on our social media platforms (Instagram & Facebook). We also encourage incoming students to try our involvement calculator.The calculator works like an online quiz and gives you some clubs and organizations you might be interested in.
