November 2018 Newsletter
The USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.
Snowball Express
This year both the USO Northwest Sea-Tac Center and Portland Airport Centers have the honor of supporting The Snowball Express on December 8th, 2018.

This event is to is to Honor America’s fallen military service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11 by humbly serving the families they left behind. Champion their children’s future success by creating opportunities for joy, friendship, and communal healing, by connecting these families to one another.

They will be joining up with Gold Star Children from all over the United States flying down to experience Walt Disney World with kids who share similar experiences.

This event is sponsored by USO, Gary Sinise Foundation and American Airlines.
Service Spotlight
Diana Kain is making a huge difference at the USO Sea-Tac Center and for USO Northwest Events. Diana regularly volunteers on critical and hard to fill Midnight – 6 a.m. shifts and helps in a short-notice, on call capacity. Diana also helped the USO Northwest Events Manager at our major fundraiser, the 2018 5-Star Gala and is leading the Sea-Tac Center’s Christmas Gift wrapping for Sea-Tac Airport in which all donations made will support the USO Northwest Sea-Tac Center.
Sea-Tac Center
Thanksgiving Dinner at the USO:  The Boeing Veterans Association stepped-up to provide a Thanksgiving meal at the Center. Many thanks to Mohr Consulting who provided $800.00 for this event and our own Volunteer Ken "Pepsi" Przepiora for coordinating all the moving parts and for coming in to manage the operation on Thanksgiving. We served 83 guests which is almost double what we served last year.

Boy Scouts deliver popcorn to service members : Local Boy Scout Troop 407 out of the Seattle Area delivered 72 cases of popcorn worth over $11,000 to the  USO Northwest 's Sea-Tac Center. This popcorn will be given to service members and their families deploying overseas from our center throughout the holiday season--to keep them connected to home--and all the Americans both young and old--who patriotically support our military service members and their families!
Shali Center
November No-Dough Dinner at Shali Center: Each month the USO Northwest provides a free meal for service members and families at JBLM. It is a unique and uplifting opportunity to bring together friends and neighbors in a casual, family-friendly, environment. Military parents get a night off from... Text Link

Joe Walsh Meet & Greet: Joe Walsh from the Eagles was in town to play his VetsAid show at the Tacoma Dome, with the proceeds going to support local Veterans.

He scheduled a stop at JBLM to do a 'meet and greet' with active-duty military. As usual, USO Northwest stepped up to lend a hand by serving food for the event out of our Shali Center.

Camp Lewis Center
Helping Hands Program: The Camp Lewis Center has become the distribution hub for our Helping Hands Program awards. This month we provided checks to 25 units for a total of $6,895. November's distributed funds supported mostly unit Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday parties. Often times units have to reserve a space before funding for the event is available and our Helping Hands Program allows them to do so.

The Salute to Military Spouses Coffee Connection & Watch Party - Camp Lewis : Military spouses’ service to the country is vital to ensuring the readiness and morale of our nation’s troops, but they do so largely unheralded. On Nov. 14, the USO Northwest hosted a small gathering for military spouses to connect with each other while enjoying a cup of coffee. This is a great way to network, share advice, discuss local events, and meet new friends! The Salute to Military Spouses event was streamed live during the gathering.
Portland Center
Portland Trailblazers Military Salute To Service game : The USO Northwest was provided and distributed 30 tickets to the Portland Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing. As well, USO Northwest coordinated the Portland MEPS swearing in of 28 new recruits during a break in the game that night.

Portland Winterhawks Military Salute To Service game: USO Northwest received and distributed 500 tickets across all branches of service in the Portland area.
Mobile Center
Seattle Seahawks, Delta Air Lines, and Starbucks team up with USO Northwest for Care Package Drive: Employees from the Seattle Seahawks, Delta Air Lines and Starbucks teamed up with USO Northwest on Veterans Day to create care packages for service members overseas. Volunteers gathered at CenturyLink Field to stuff 2,000 care packages with Starbucks VIA coffee, lip balms, handwritten thank you cards, earphones, snacks and more.

This holiday season, many military members will be spending the holidays away from their families -- wanting nothing more than to be home for the holidays -- with family and loved ones they miss.

We can't bring all our service members home for the holidays, but we can bring a little bit of home to them!

91¢ out of every $1 donated to the USO Northwest goes directly to serve our service members and their families.

We thank you for your support!
