USO Northwest Portland Center's Expansion to Break Ground on December 7th
Portland - December 1, 2017 the USO Northwest's Portland Center located at the Portland International Airport will break ground on their expansion project to increase the center from 650 sq ft to 1,245 sq ft
.
The expansion project will nearly double the current size of the USO Center - significantly impacting on USO-NW's ability to provide deploying and transitioning military and their dependents with programs and services designed to meet the unique and ever-changing needs of today's service members and their families.

Facilities and programs to be added include a children's playroom, expanded lounge, secured luggage storage, and a United Through Reading room - a reading program developed to ease the stress of separation for service members and their children.

Our center expansion project is made possible thanks to our corporate and community partners who have generously supported the project. We would like to thank the Oregon Community Foundation, Stan Brock Black & Gold Classic Northwest, Autzen Foundation, Day Wireless, and Les Schwab.
We would also like to thank our community partners who are donating the products and professional services to complete the project, including: Glen Mar Construction, Anderson Dabrowski Architects, LLC, Best Built Cabinets, Floor Solutions LLC and Recovering the Northwest.

During the past two years the number of service members and their families utilizing the center has far exceeded the original needs assessment. This project will provide USO-NW with the ability to serve 3,000 additional service members and their dependents each year.

About USO Northwest

For over 75 years, the USO has strengthened America's military service members by keeping them connected to family and loved ones, throughout their service to the nation.  USO Northwest (USO-NW) continues that mission today by serving more than 750,000 service members and their families annually throughout Washington and Oregon.  USO-NW operates two travel-based centers at Sea-Tac International Airport and Portland International Airport along with two installation-based centers on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Shali USO Center and Camp Lewis USO Center providing traveling and local military service members and their dependent families with all the comforts of home.

Two USO-NW Mobile Canteens expand our service delivery by offering the military and their families the same best-in-class support we provide at stationary centers, but in the field during trainings, pierside for deployments and homecomings, and throughout military and civilian locations in the Pacific Northwest.  USO-NW provides support to those who need it most, including morale-boosting and family-strengthening programs, deployment and redeployment support to help servicemen and women adjusting to the duty ahead, resiliency training for families facing multiple deployments, as well as support for families coping with the loss of a family member, Families of the Fallen.

USO Northwest is not a government agency, but a private, nonprofit organization that relies solely on private support from individuals, organizations, foundations, corporations and fundraisers to support its activities.  USO-NW does not receive government funding.  USO Northwest is supported through the Combined Federal Campaign #15348, King County Employee Giving Program #9585, and the WA State Combined Fund Drive #0376776.
