The USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.
USO Northwest Helps Coast Guard Families
Amid the recent government shutdown, USO Northwest and several partner organizations made it their mission to help Coast Guard families through the difficult time.

On January 26, USO Northwest held a food drive at Fred Meyer stores in Maple Valley, Issaquah and Ballard. The food bank at the Seattle Coast Guard Station had been mostly depleted, with supplies going out faster than coming in. The event was a resounding success, with enough donations collected to keep the food bank open for weeks.
There are more than 3,000 active duty and reserve members, civilian employees, and Coast Guard Auxiliarists stationed in the Pacific Northwest. The non-partisan statewide community effort helped ease the burden on Coast Guard families through the government shutdown.

The  USO Northwest  held a special  U.S. Coast Guard  Appreciation Dinner last night at our Shali Center for those families that had been affected by the government shutdown on February 8th, 2019.

Coast Guard parents got a night off from kitchen duty and the military children had a chance to make new friends, all while enjoying a delicious spaghetti dinner provided by the volunteers and staff of the USO Shali Center.

In addition, the families were able to pick up items from the food pantry that had been set up at our Shali Center to carry those families over the hump while the shutdown was active.
USO Northwest spearheaded the donation drive on the behalf of the Chief Petty Officer Association (CPOA). USO Northwest, with the help of former Seahawk  Marcus Trufant , Mischelle Davis of  Davis Law Group, P.S. Truman National Security Project  Seattle Chapter and the  Windermere Foundation , helped raise over $96,000 for the cause in just over 2 weeks.

These events are an opportunity to share advice, discuss local events, and meet new friends! Twenty-one spouses enjoyed the March event which also featured goody bag giveaways, a raffle drawing and more.

Little Caesar's Luncheon: In keeping with their consistent generosity and support of USO Northwest, the team from Little Caesar’s of Lakewood reached out to host monthly pizza parties for our service members at the Camp Lewis USO. It was a big hit to the Soldiers and Airmen who came through our center for lunch.

Marine Vet and Family Donate Quilt to USO Northwest: A Marine veteran, her husband, and their two young kids came into the Center wanting to donate this quilt. They were at a Veterans non-profit fundraiser and won the quilt thru a raffle.

They were wanting to donate it to a worthy organization and decided on the USO as they had used it many times during their military careers. They brought their young kids in with them, showing them the USO and what we do.
USO Northwest Hires new Development Manager: We recently hired Stacy Benner as the Development Manager who will be based out of our PDX Center.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to join the USO in the Portland office.
I am active in the local community as a board member for Young Audiences, a nonprofit which supports arts education for young people, as well as a member of the Black & Gold NW committee. In my free time, I love to travel, hike, play golf, and spend time with my family."

Farewell Tom: Tom Lancaster has been with the USO Northwest for three years, first as Sea-Tac Night Manger, then as the Mobile Manager. Tom parted ways with the USO to get back into the commercial auto business which he worked in prior to his time with the USO Northwest.

Our Sea-Tac Night Manager Dan Lochner also stepped down at the end of February. As a former Navy Chaplain, Dan has   the ability to quickly connect with service members and their families and ease their stress during PCS moves. Flight Nights will miss his easy manner and quiet way of solving whatever problem that came up on those busy evenings.

Welcome Dan: You guys thought we would let Dan Lochner get away? He is taking over the as the new USO Northwest Mobile Manager. If you would like to volunteer with the USO Mobile Events CLICK HERE

Tim Cascade Snacks:
Tim's Cascade Snacks is a proud sponsor of the USO Northwest. They are donating 10,000 bags of Tim's Chips each month! This fills an essential need at all of our centers. With nearly every sandwich and hot dog eaten, service members grab a bag of chips to go with it. With over 80,000 sandwiches and hot dogs served in 2018 at our 4 centers and mobile events... that is a lot of chips. A special "Thank You" to our friends at Tim's Chips for their generous donation. Nothing better than the crunching sound echoing throughout our USO centers!

USO Mobile Events serves our military and their families through three Mobile USOs. Why three? Because it takes three to keep up with all the requests.

Our three Mobile USOs serve our military and their families at more than 300 events each year – expanding our reach and the number of service members and their families we serve.

You will find our Mobile USOs at
pre-deployment parties, homecoming celebrations, unit activities on military installations and many other special event activities throughout Washington and Oregon.

USO Northwest Snow Angels: As many of you know our Sea-Tac Airport Center is open 24/7/365. In fact, during inclement weather it is even more important that we stay open due to our service members being stranded due to grounded aircraft.

During our Northwest Snowpocalypse from February 8-11th many of our volunteers were unable to make it into work.

However, Diana Kain and our very own Gina Luplow (Events Manager) brought in overnight bags and manned the center to ensure it stayed open during the worst of the weather.

On behalf of the service members and their families stranded at our center we would like to thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the center could stay open. Definitely, the #ForceBehindTheForces

USO is not a government agency. We rely on donations from individuals like you -- to support the programs that have the most impact on the lives of our military service members.

Thanks to YOU, USO Northwest served over 800,000 service members and their families last year -- but we didn't do it alone.

You donation will enable USO Northwest to continue to offer the programs that have the greatest impact for our military and their families.

Your support does make an impact as 91¢ out of every $1 you donate to the USO Northwest goes directly to serve our service members and their families.
